Our country’s history is ugly and painful. Don’t get me wrong, I love this country and appreciate every freedom I have, but no one is proud to admit that most of our struggles dealt (deal) with oppression and inequality. It’s not lost on anyone that the document declaring our independence from the British Crown - containing the phrase “all men are created equal” - was drafted and signed by slave owners. As the years and decades passed, men and women of all colors and creeds fought, protested, and died to show they were also entitled to the same unalienable rights of Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness. Barely out of our country’s infancy, we’re still dealing with the growing pains of prejudices and abuses of power, but I believe most people recognize it benefits all humanity to treat others as they would like to be treated and push back against oppression of any kind. Which is the same spirit that was captured in that eloquently written “middle finger” our forefathers gave to King George 242 years ago. So, my fellow Americans, continue the tradition of fighting for what’s right and standing up for those who aren’t able to defend themselves. Have a safe and happy 4th!

My #FathersDay gift arrived just in time for #IndependenceDay! I was fooling around designing custom #Converse on their site and came up with these #Chucks inspired by #RevolutionaryWar uniforms. 🇺🇸 Since I already have quite a few pairs of #AllStars I didn’t think I’d actually get these! Thank you so much @mrsevilhedd ❤️

This weekend was pretty fantastic. Yesterday, we got to see Maddie dance like it was 1938 and today we introduced Vivian to her very first movie theater experience! It was a special weekend that I desperately needed.
I learned some very tough lessons recently about parenthood. It made me take notice as to what characteristics or behavior I’m passing down to my kids. I am far from a perfect father. I raise my voice more than I should and I need to work on being more patient, but no matter how bad the situation, I always - always - try to fix what I broke. Life is way too short to let a disagreement or argument fester into something worse. We take a beat and talk things over. I apologize. We give big hugs. I tell them how much I love them and that I’ll try harder to be better. A family is a work in progress. The rules change with each passing year and I don’t seem to catch on as quickly as I would like, but I will always talk with my kids and try my best to work through any problems. I will evolve and try like hell to be better. With any luck, my girls will learn from my shortcomings, build upon what I got right, and become more altruistic, patient, and honorable than I ever was.
Thank you for a really perfect weekend and Happy Father’s Day to all the dads actively trying to improve themselves. #FathersDay2018
1st and Last Day of 6th Grade for Maddie! She’s much smarter than I ever was at her age. Vivian is always there for support. Congrats on one hell of a year, kid! 📓📚✏️💯🧠 #ilovemyquirkykids #MadandVee #sisters

Unfortunately, I forgot to take my usual movie poster portrait before my friends left the theater. However, I was just nerdy enough to take it by myself before I drove away. #Upgrade is street-level sci-fi at its best. You’ll sense DNA from The Crow, John Wick, Dredd, Hardware, Evil Dead 2, and even Frankenstein, yet the film remains very much it’s own original experience. It’s a not-to-distant future revenge story with a Twilight Zone ending. It was a fun night out with the guys. Thanks Sean and JPL! Rating: 5 out of 5 Unsafe Self-Driving Cars

I took the girls for chocolate malts yesterday and caught this while I was waiting. 💕 #MadandVee #sisters
This was not staged. Other than asking Vivian to stay still while I grabbed my phone, this was exactly how she woke me up this morning. My own little #CaptainAmerica. To all who have served and to the families who sacrificed so much, thank you. 🇺🇸 #MemorialDay2018
