So if you read my last post on the Top 12 Things To Do in Hong Kong you will know that my number 1 recommendation is to hit up allllll the bars. Hong Kong really is in a league of its own when it comes to bars, you won’t have experienced anything like it before, anywhere, ever. They pop up out of nowhere and in the most unsuspecting of places; it’s really quite special and has to be experienced to be believed. All I cay say is if you like a good tipple or two I can guarantee that you’ll have the time of your life discovering Hong Kong’s plethora of watering holes.

1. Wooloomooloo rooftop

Wooloomooloo is my absolute favourite bar in Hong Kong and a complete hidden gem as far as I’m concerned. A rooftop bar located above a steakhouse in Wan Chai, it the best kept secret with spectacular views, good service, well-made and reasonably priced cocktails and never gets overcrowded! 2. Feather Boa

I don’t even know where to begin with this one. You’d be right in assuming that it’s an abandoned shop with no signpost and plush velvet curtains fully drawn, yet if you knock on the door and wait patiently a Chinese lady wearing a baggy T-shirt will answer the door and decide whether to invite you in. Once you’ve passed the threshold you’ll find yourself in a high-ceilinged room decorated with vintage furniture and paintings. Upbeat (and weirdly enjoyable) French music reverberates around the room and though you can order any ordinary drink, your poison of choice simply MUST be their specialty daiquiris; fresh fruit sliced & diced before your eyes and generous pours of all sorts of alcohol, these drinks are liquid crack and at 1 sip will have you hooked and wanting more. AP Top Tip: Whatever flavour you choose you can’t go wrong as I’m still working out my favourite, and be sure to get the chocolate rim and thank me later. Oh, and don’t be alarmed by the princess/fairy that serves you, you’ll soon realise that it’s part of the charm.

3. Ophelia

Ophelia is an awesome place to spend your night into the wee hours of the morning. Swanky AF with a slight enchanted forest, mystical feel to the décor, you’ll find insane dancers and rather raunchy shows performed in the large cages around the dance floor. It’s a night you won’t forget quickly, though you will pay for it with your normal drink setting you back around £20 a pop. AP Top Tip: My preferred venue choice after a night out at the races!

4. Iron Fairies

Insane. Insane, insane, insane. The ceiling is COVERED in dangling butterflies and tables/wells filled with “good luck” iron fairies are scattered across the main room for you to sit and enjoy your drinks around, whilst iron furnaces offering a little more privacy line the outer edges of the room. There’s a medieval influence to the cast iron furnishings and a crazy beautiful effect from the butterflies, fairies and bottled glitter. Yes, it’s as amazing as it sounds.

 5. Brickhouse

Where do I even begin with Brickhouse? Tucked down a narrow alleyway in LKF is this excellent and incredibly ambient Mexican restaurant. However, don’t be fooled into thinking that food is the only thing this place has to offer as once dinner service is over the tables are cleared and Brickhouse transforms into ALL THE FEELZ with the most amazing upbeat vibe, delectable cocktails, an amazing resident DJ {10/10 on the tunes from me} and the best staff ever. The place is always jam-packed and my absolute go-to for both relaxed catch-ups and wild Friday nights. AP Top Tip: Order the diabla cocktail or live to regret it, and please say hi to Tony from me!

 6. J Boroski

A stunning speakeasy with a ceiling covered in embedded bugs and with no menu in sight this little joint is certainly one of a kind. The waiters will ask you what your usual taste preferences are and curate you a drink especially designed for you; they never make the same drink twice so you better get creative! It’s a great date or pre-dinner drink spot. AP Top Tip: If you go through the door that’s not the exit door but close to it you’ll find yourself in Iron Fairies {above} = queue jump galore!

7. Ozone

The tallest bar in Hong Kong and an incredibly swanky spot within the Ritz, this is an obvious go-to for most tourists. I can’t say that it’s my favourite bar as I think you get much more enjoyable views from Wooloomooloo rooftop and Aqua and Hutong restaurants, but if you’re Kowloon-side and fancy a high-key night, it’s the place to go!

8. Armani/Prive

Located within The Landmark shopping mall in Central this bar is part of the Aqua restaurant group and therefore speaks for itself. A totally different view to all of the “conventional” view points, Armani/Prive is located smack bang on the glossy Queen’s Road with views of all that shines around it and I love it during the evening when everything is lit up. AP Top Tip: Drinks here aren’t cheap but the weekend happy hour from 4-7pm is an absolute STEAL with free-flow Bellini’s, prosecco, wine and certain cocktails for just $200 HKD (approx. £20), so GO CRAY!

9. Captain’s Bar/Mo Bar

Also both located within The Landmark are Captain’s Bar and Mo Bar, housed respectively within the old and & new Mandarin Oriental hotels. Captain’s Bar is a bit more “gentleman’s club”-esque than any of the other contenders on this list, and where you can certainly expect to find the suited & booted, with deep red leather chairs and white penguin-suited waiters it is a high flying male’s meeting point of choice. It is always busy and just has the coziest, warmest atmosphere, as well as the BEST SNACKS EVER {I may or may not have been known to forego dinner for these delectable free-flowing nibbles}. Mo Bar is the young, trendy version with a high ceiling and bright colours, and though it is a solid shout for post-work drinks, Captain’s Bar holds a fond place in my heart. {As it so happens it was also my dad’s “spot” and where my parents frequented together every Sunday afternoon back in the day, and where mum would get her weekly dose of spaghetti carbonara that she still talks about now!}.

 10. Ce La Vi

Top of the California Tower in LKF you’ll find Ce La Vi, a super chilled rooftop by day and poppin’ nightclub by night. They also do a free-flow brunch at the weekend but regardless of what time of day you visit this spot you will not be disappointed.
