Back to Basics

Why did you stop? You were so good!”- Rosie

Whilst “Saturdaying” at home this weekend; I stumbling across a few shoots which I did back in 2016. As I was going through them I felt quite disappointed in myself for not following through; all that popped into my head was “Damn; why didn’t I upload a new post”. Worst feeling ever! Actually maybe not; the worst feeling is knowing the amount of time & work that went into the shoots especially from my Photographer and then me not fully committing to the end results. Such a waste; or is it?

Generally speaking we tend to start new exciting tasks and hobbies; as we go along we then start pushing them aside or putting them on pause. Why do we do that?

Is it because something new came along? Are you to busy? Was it just a phase and you got bored? Or did you start doubting yourself?

Anyway my goal this year is to fully commit! Not just in blogging; but also other personal goals like living a healthy lifestyle (it’s amazing how you body just slows down as soon as you hit 26).  But first I need to win back my AMAZING photographer Lizwi or should I say Liziwe (jokes hahaha).

Back to Basics! hope you enjoy this shoot from archives; which is VERY much relevant to today’s trend!

Don’t worry about failures, worry about the chances you miss when you don’t even try.

Lets just say that 2016 has been quite a year! One of the key lessons which I’ve learnt is to stop worrying about what other people think, and just live! Also procrastination is a b***.

While working on my blog I’ve had the opportunity of exploring beautiful places around Cape Town. There’s still a lot of other places which I would like to explore with my AMAZING photographer.

Bokaap! A beautiful area at the tip of the City, filled with colourful townhouses. When we shot this I was a bit worried that I’d possibly offend the Muslim community with my choice of clothing, however everyone was extremely welcoming and friendly! The people were just AMAZING! While we were shooting this beautiful girl came up to us and said she recognized me from earlier when I was walking in the Company Gardens. “I recognized you from your beautiful hair” she said. This really put a smile on my face.

Pink satin and cute bordeaux. Secret is that my cute bordeaux top is actually a rectangular piece of fabric, which I tied around my strapless bra. An easy DIY for everyone! You should definitely try it at home, you can even play with the fabric by trying different ways of tying it (try a halter neck look).

PS- If you haven’t noticed yet the latest trends on social media, levels of pink and satin are a hot summer trend.

HAPPY NEW YEAR and THANK YOU for taking the time to read my blog, I really appreciate the views and amazing feedback.

An afternoon shoot at the Company Gardens.

I am convinced that the white skater skirt works with any top, printed or plain. This item has become one of my “easy to wear” items of clothing. Hence why I own two of the same/similar skirt.

This time I decided to pair this skirt with a boho bird printed flared top from New Look. I bought this shirt over 2 years ago, and yet this was the first time I’ve actually worn it. What I love the most about this look, is that even though the skirt and sleeves are flared (which can make one look big), the cinched waist gives you that hour glass shape which helps balance the body. Very feminine which I LOVE!

I’m all about showing the “realness” of the locations I choose to use for shoots, so if you see a group of homeless people in the background, unfortunately that’s the reality of most  if not all countries.

A fresher take of the typical Boho look!

Scarf print

The most alluring thing a woman can have is CONFIDENCE.

Remember that moment when Beyonce decide to wear a Versace scarf print co-ord set? She oozed confidence; sexiness and bravery all at once. If you’ve never seen that picture, I urge you to google search it and you will see exactly what I mean.

Prints are one of the most daring “things” to wear; as they can tend to make one appear larger than what they really are. However that can never stop a confident woman from wearing what they like. When worn, you start to see this alter ego come out. All of a sudden you’re unstoppable; and that’s the beauty of clothing.

I found this scarf print at a fabric store in Cape Town and all that came to mind when I saw it was “Versace! Versace! Versace! Versace! Versace! Versace!”

It is loud; bold and rich! Exactly what every woman on a budget needs! Paired with a faux fur and I’m just about ready for a fun night out!

Note to self: You wear the clothes, don’t let them wear you!

The Floral trucker

Is it because I always tease you about your neck? I like your neck; it’s small and feminine, says Nicola.

I woke up on shoot day and I didn’t know what to wear? All I knew is that I wanted to do a shoot wearing my favorite Zara trucker. That morning I decided to sew. There’s no easier way to wear a statement floral trucker, either than pairing it with a simple bodycon dress. Of course I had to add a self-fabric pussy-bow tie. Keeping up with the floral theme I really wanted to make this shoot feminine, hence why we shot this in a few walk-able locations around Green Point.

I don’t know about you guys, but Spring brings out the feminine side of me. Man I LOVE flowers!

Ps- You can easily wear this look with a pair of white sneakers.

Orange Walls

Nude… I hope you’re talking about the colour! – Sam.

I think its quiet obvious by now that my current favorite colour palette is leading towards the neutrals and pale colours. These tones always seem to add a sophisticated freshness to ones look. Not to mention that this colour looks great on darker skin tones.

When Lizwi and I were walking around Green Point looking for the right setting to shoot, we came across this loud orange wall and we just knew “that’s the spot”! The only difficult thing about shooting in Green Point wearing heels, is the uphill slope! Either than that there are amazing hidden locations to use or even get inspired by.

Everything high-waisted, perfect for the bigger woman! Why? Well first of all it creates a flattering  hourglass frame, an illusion of a smaller waist. If you are not comfortable wearing jeggings or jeans, you can always opt for a high-waist skirt (tube or full skirt). If you are feeling a bit exposed (not that I was), you call always put on a long-line duster similar to the one which I have on from River Island.

It’s just like milk

I know I only just started shooting for my blog, but this has to be one of my favorite looks thus far. This shoot was perfect, the weather was behaving and the scenery fitted just right! We managed to get a lot of great pictures, If only I could show you all of them.

Pale blue walls and giant pot plants… Smooth as milk.

When Lizwi and I were done, we had to reward ourselves with the best Ice cream in Cape Town from Gelato.

Ripped shorts and heels

Let’s all donate some money for Lu to buy new jeans- says the Team.

Nothing screams summer better than ripped shorts and dark skin. As we wrap up this transitional period I’m pretty sure that most of us are super eager to hit the beach without worrying about the mini “sand storms” which we get on windy days.

I’ve managed to put a look together perfect for those “hot and cold” days… Ripped shorts and knitwear.

I love showing skin! Most of the time I do a little DIY rips to give my denim that EXTRA ripped effect.

Nude Dressing

Not so long ago one of my friends jokingly said she knows how I get a lot of Instagram likes on my pictures… “Because you hashtag #nudes”- she said.

Over the past few years we’ve seen a lot of one colour dressing especially in black, also known as #monotone. However one of the key trends of one colour dressing during the transitional period is in the lighter palettes. Whether dressing up in light grey, pale pink or neutrals as first seen in the Yeezy fashion show back in 2015. This trend has been growing as more people want the “Kardashian Look”.

So I figured why not? Lets give the people a look which they want to be seen in, inspired by Yeezy and his wife Kim.
