San Diego is Lit: Old Town Trolley “City Lights” Tour.

Some people think of San Diego mostly as a “Day-Time” city, and with perfect sunny weather, beautiful urban parks, and many pretty beach neighborhoods it’s easy to see why. San Diego really does look gorgeous in the daylight! I work in downtown and now that it’s finally the darker half of the year (I do enjoy when it gets darker faster) I get to watch the street lights come on and cast a warm glow over the antique victorian buildings and city streets.

My family and I enjoyed taking the “Hop On, Hop Off” Old Town Trolley Tour a while back so when I saw that San Diego Old Town Trolley Tours also did a “City Lights” Trolley Tour I wanted to see what it was all about. It’s always fun to be a tourist in your hometown!

Autumn Aquarius City Lights Tour Trolly

The one and a half hour tour took us through some of the most beautifully lit landmarks in San Diego including Balboa Park, Gaslamp Quarter, and the Coronado Ferry Landing. It was a very laid-back tour with expert narration from our guide/driver Tim, and a great music soundtrack in the background. The only “Hop on, Hop Off” aspect of this particular tour was when we got off the trolly and took a brief stroll around the Coronado Ferry landing shops and to take in this view:

Because of the way the seating on the trolley is set up, there aren’t any “bad” seats, but if I were to take the tour again, I would recommend sitting on the right-hand side of the trolley. While the landmarks could be viewed nicely from either side, the right-hand side has more optimal angles for all of you who like taking photos like I do.

If you are visiting our beautiful city, I highly recommend you add the “City Lights” Trolley Tour to your San Diego itinerary. Tourists don’t normally take this tour because they are out and about taking San Diego in by day which is very fun, but can get busy and crowded. The busier parts of the city have an entirely different feel at night, and it’s lovely to view the glittering lights from the comfort of your trolley seat.

As for us locals, sometimes we get caught up in the day to day hustle and bustle that we forget how amazing our own city is! There is a reason we are America’s Finest. Take this trolley tour and see San Diego in a whole new light!

*Big thank you to TIMGS for helping me out with photos for this post, and Old Town Trolley Tours for the collab!
