Why you should always check flight time before booking!

For many this is the standard but when you get an average of 50 flights a year you might over look it. This is what just happened to me.

When airports become your second home you might overlook certain things

So after a busier than usual January I decided to take some time off and flew to the land of Pasta and Broth – Bologna. Going there was flawless albeit a crazy carpool down from Milan (thats for another post). My friend took care of finding the flights something which I decided she could do since I was extremely busy that I thought better to have one less thing on my mind.

Flights booked etc but me being me and sometimes rushing I overlooked the most important time – departure time! My friend left Bologna 8 hours before me and I’m stuck here waiting 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️.

Tips to get to Airports in time and without hassle :

  • Jokes apart really always check your flight time
  • How far away the airport is from where you’re staying
  • The best option to get there be it bus or train. I wouldn’t say taxi as they can be notoriously expensive and apps such as Uber and Taxify don’t always work (some countries/cities actually banned them). Some airports might also have direct Metro links : Munich, Berlin SFX, Paris, Heathrow & Gatwick and recently also Prague added a metro link
  • Make sure you have breathing space I suggest 1 hour due to traffic, fog or rail interruptions
  • Incase of tight switches or late arrival familiarise yourself with the airport layout. Most airports have these available online on their corporate site and gate numbers are even available. This is amazing if your running late – Trust me it’s saved my ass a few times. Mark the best route from Entrance to Security Desks to your Gate.
  • Know basic phrases such as “sorry, excuse me” , “can I go through as I’m late” in the native language as some people might not know English very well – you can always ask security personnel for help
  • Always have Plan Bs – no matter how much you plan things will go wrong…. Always have a Plan B and be able to improvise – know your options and Yes Google is your best friend!
