S.O.S Save our Snowee

“Saving one animal won’t change the world, but it will change the world for that animal.”

Snowee is a 5-month-old Desi dog (Indian street dog). He was a little puppy when he was found alone on the side of a road, struggling for his life. The people who found him, looked after him for a few weeks until he contracted the parvovirus. Sadly, they could not take care of him and left him in a local shelter. He was a small puppy and had little chances of surviving, but luckily, he made it.

My friends Helen and Roxanne, and I, travelled to India in February to help street dogs. For those who don’t know us, we study Canine behaviour together at university, and we’re very passionate about helping animals in distress.
We met Snowee at a local shelter, where we spent a few days helping. We immediately fell in love with his personality.

He was very attached to humans, which created a lot of distress when it was time for people to leave the shelter. It broke our hearts every time. In addition to his emotional distress, he was not in good health. He had a respiratory infection and was losing weight. The shelter had a few cases of distemper and Snowee was at risk of contracting this life-threatening disease.

Unfortunately, his rescuers didn’t come back for him and his chances of being adopted were very low. Desi dogs are not popular pets in India; when Indians adopt a dog, they generally get a pure breed. I started considering the idea of bringing him back home, even if that meant I had to find him a foster home for a few months. I made a few phone calls, and finally got in touch with a vet who accepted to foster Snowee. He also agreed to carry out all the necessary procedures and get him ready to fly to France.

When Snowee arrived there, he had a tick fever and we feared we would lose him. But he’s a little fighter and thanks to the amazing vet, he is on the mend. He deserves a nice home with a cosy bed and people to love him. If everything goes well, Snowee will come and live with me in July. This will change his world and I would be very grateful if you can help us achieve it.

Rescuing Snowee and bringing him to France will cost around 2000€, of which I'm able to finance half myself. Any contribution towards this would be very much appreciated. The money will be used for :

Microchipping and vaccinations
Fostering at the vet’s home
Shipping a refrigerated blood sample to an EU laboratory
Laboratory testing fees
Exportation and quarantine certificates
Transportation and airline costs
