Loie Hollowell's first exhibition in Hong Kong, entitled "Switchback," is only up for a few more days before closing next Thursday, May 31. See the show at #PaceGallery's space on the 15th floor of the Hong Kong Entertainment Building, located at 30 Queen's Road Central.
-
For this installation, #LoieHollowell selected paintings and drawings that share common color hues, installed in four groupings throughout the gallery. Before embarking on each of her paintings, Hollowell carefully works with pastels and graphite on paper to test out various combinations of color, shading, and forms.
-
To create her paintings, she builds upon flat linen-covered panels by applying shapes carved from high-density foam that are then sealed with a mixture of sawdust and acrylic medium. Once these sculpted linen panels have reached a perfectly smooth, undulating surface, Hollowell begins to apply oil paint. Through the use of color, chiaroscuro and an ethereal sense of light and space, Hollowell creates images that play with ideas of foreground and background, figure and ground, and body and landscape.

âShadowed Forms,â curated by Kevin Francis Gray, is on view now through 16 June at @andersenscontemporary in Copenhagen. Presenting the work of 15 artists, the heart of exhibition features #BarbaraHepworthâs âSheltered Formâ (1972).
-
This exhibition marks the first time that #Hepworthâs works have traveled to Denmark since 1964, when, in collaboration with the British Council, Copenhagenâs Kunstforeningen presented a touring exhibition of seventeen of Hepworthâs works in marble, wood, and brass. The group of artists in the exhibition collectively pay homage to Hepworthâs âSheltered Form,â pictured at center here flanked by two marble panels of #KevinFrancisGray.
