Phone Photography? Why not?

A new trend of DSLRs rules this world with their flashy, expensive lenses and enthralling crisp resolutions. People from all walks of life can be seen striving towards display pictures from Nikons and Canons. Photography enthusiasts set photographs with DSLRs far above the standard us lowly phone photographers can achieve. However, technology has come far, my friends, and phones can truly be a great gadget to have if your wallet is empty, you find it hard to carry a DSLR everywhere and all your pictures are spontaneous.
Firstly, always remember creativity is more important than your camera. Let’s look at how many amazing experiments or pictures you can just take at home! DIY studios with cardboard boxes and lamps make amazing places to just experiment with for some glorious product photography.

Take a look at this picture I took from a normal 12 megapixel phone camera. With the help of a chart paper and some table lamps I managed to create a nice picture that could give photographers with DSLRs competition. Being creative and imaginative is much more important than whatever camera you have! Don’t let a lens dictate your passions!

Secondly, remember that all those complaining about the limits of resolution on phones don’t realize that any person can take a picture from a DSLR which has crisp resolution but that doesn’t necessarily mean that it counts as genius. Taking good pictures with a phone is true art and one to be admired.

If you’re are enthusiastic about photography and feel like the pictures from your phone are dull or boring, please don’t forget the amazing phenomenon known as editing. If you look at the examples below you can see how big of a helping hand editing can be.

These few examples may help you in understand how vibrant and sharp some editing can make a picture. Popping the colors and cropping the picture just right can make a hell of a difference. Helpful editing apps like Mextures (for IOS users) and VSCO (for android) as well as the countless others can really help enhance your pictures and take them to a whole new level.

A lot of folks also argue how hard it maybe to take landscapes or capture light well through a simple phone camera due to the lack of focus and zoom that a DSLR has. It may be very difficult to capture nature’s colors or a bokeh but practice can help you there. For both these things you need to make sure your frame is right. If you experiment with focusing on a near object you can use that to create wonderful bokehs in the background. For landscapes cut the extra bits off as much as you can and try and enhance the object in question (a cliff, the sea, a mountain, etc).

Also, some people shy away from portraits by phones, preferring display pictures from DSLRs rather than a simple phone camera. However, it’s literally all about framing and editing where portraits are concerned just like any other picture.

So just remember not to shy away from photography just because you feel like you don’t have a good camera. Be creative, be passionate and stay focused!
