Alwun House Foundation
Alwun House Foundation stands as an exemplary model of engaging the power of art to transform lives and transform the community. For more than 40 years, the Alwun House foundation has created opportunities for artists, and served as a pivotal beacon in the Garfield community and as a foundation for the downtown Phoenix arts scene. Their work extends across artistic and cultural boundaries, and brings diverse audiences, community members and artists together. Without the pioneering work of Alwun House, much of what is taken for granted in the vibrancy and success of downtown’s flourishing arts community would not have been possible.

Everyone is welcome to come hear our own Garfield Elementary School youth perform JAZZ. This Garfield & Edison Jazz Band (6th & 7th graders) will be performing this First Friday 4-6pm at Alwun House. Folks, it ain’t like these kids are in NOLA and hearing jazz, so we were really thrilled to showcase these talented kids and see their enthusiasm. It’s free! It’s fun! It’s something to be proud of that our youth are learning these skills in our own local school. Show these youth some love and support. Hope to see you Friday!

First Friday, October 4 – 26, 2024
Monsters Menagerie is a juried art exhibit, creaking the doors open for the grotesque and profane art in a variety of media from local artists. Demented creative works from menacing dark noir fantasies, satirical political demons, to monstrous and blood-curdling creations that scream for attention. Even politicians aren’t exempt from these artistic depictions of the social demons among us. Monsters Menagerie isn’t just an exhibit; it’s an experience that encourages visitors to confront these monsters who may be deeply unsettling, while also exploring the deeper societal issues that give rise to these artistic creations.
Exhibit viewing: Tuesday – Friday, Noon – 6pm. Free.
