New COPH grads welcomed into “a noble profession”
The USF C OPH celebrated 178 graduates on Dec. 7. Eighty-four students were awarded bachelor degrees while 85 earned their master’s degrees, including the first cohort in the online  MPH Nutrition and Dietetics program . Nine students also received their doctoral degrees.

Dr. Kevin Kip named 2018 AAAS Fellow for “extraordinary achievements in science”
In recognition of his leadership, pioneering research and distinguished service, the American Association for the Advancement of Science has elected  Dr. Kevin Kip a 2018 Fellow.

Melody Kitchen awarded NIH grant for cancer research in Israel
Master’s student Melody Kitchen is one of fifteen students from across the U.S. chosen for the 2018 Cancer Epidemiology Education in Special Populations Program.

Dr. Robert Novak participates in by-invitation-only 2018 Grand Challenges Annual Meeting
Vector-borne disease expert  Dr. Robert Novak recently returned from the 2018 Grand Challenges Annual Meeting, held in October in Berlin, Germany.

COPH undergrads participate in research expo
COPH students Oceana Dwyer and Justin Weiner participated in USF’s second annual  Undergraduate Research Society’s  Fall Expo on October 15.

COPH alum Frank Yiannas accepts top food safety job at FDA
His public health practice is food safety. His public health passion is protecting people. It was his undergraduate studies in microbiology that first sparked an interest in food safety for COPH  alumnus  Frank Yiannas .

Natasha (Smith) Davy is a program specialist senior in the public health division of the Multnomah County Health Department in Portland, Ore.

Daniel Medina, PhD, MSPH, is an industrial hygienist at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta.

Lauren Woodward, MPH, is coordinator of comprehensive health education at Hillsborough County Public Schools in Tampa, Fla.
