It's the equivalent of the Super Bowl for Dennis McCoy, our photo editor.
We're in the middle of the local Wide Open Walls mural festival, which means artists from all over the world can be spotted in the Sacramento area. We've already photographed several artists working on their murals. The first part of our series of slideshows accompanies this story.
Sacramento's first local mural festival was founded in 2016. The event is organized by Wide Open Walls, a nonprofit. David Sobon is the president of the Wide Open Walls board of directors. The nonprofit struggled with its cybersecurity as this year's mural festival approached.
Several of the festival's murals are displayed at local businesses. Murals and other creative works can create atmosphere, build community, enhance a business connection and reinforce an area’s cultural history.
