We're changing our name
On 1 April 2019 we became Forestry England. This marks the start of an exciting new chapter in our history.
We have support from Government to change how we work, build a stronger brand, and explore how we can do more to enhance the nation’s forests.

Who is Forestry England?
We shape landscapes for the nation.
We are England’s largest land manager and custodian of the nation’s public forests. We have around 1,000 committed staff and volunteers looking after more land and more trees than any other organisation. We work in partnership with others across government and the charitable and private sectors.
The nation’s forests are a great source of natural wealth and help shape the look and feel of the ‘natural’ countryside. They influence how the countryside works, for timber as well as people and wildlife. It’s an environment that is nurtured and planned.
The nation’s forests flourish with management and planning. In that sense we are landscapers on a vast, nationwide scale for this generation and beyond.
We are committed to working in the nation’s forests for the good of society. Our work today influences what the nation’s forests look like for generations to come.
We are looking a hundred years or more ahead to imagine how England’s countryside needs to adapt to a changing climate and cultural changes.
It is a job that never stops growing.

Are you still part of the Forestry Commission?
Yes. We are still part of the Forestry Commission and part of the wider Defra group.
The Forestry Commission is made up of three parts: Forest Services who are the government’s expert forestry advisors, Forest Research who deliver internationally-renowned forestry and tree-related research to England, Scotland and Wales, and Forestry England who manage the nation’s forests.

Why are you changing?
We want to enhance the nation’s forests and the benefits they can deliver for people, wildlife and economy. Our research shows that not enough people know who we are and what we do. We often get confused with other organisations, and other parts of the Forestry Commission.
By creating a more distinct and recognisable brand identity more people will:
- know who we are and what we do,
- choose to visit us and buy our products and services,
- want to work with us and for us.
The more support we have from people, the more we can do to maintain the nation’s forests for generations to come.

Why does this matter?
Around 20% of our income comes from the taxpayer. We generate most of the money we need ourselves through our timber sales, through our recreational activities and other commercial or partnership activities.
All the money we make is reinvested into caring for the nation’s forests.
We always need to look for new opportunities to increase our net income so we can continue to carry out the important work we do – and do more.
We believe that the Forestry England brand will help us to tell our story, gain support and in turn, help us enhance the nation’s forests.

Our new look and feel
Our new look better reflects who we are and what we do. It brings simplicity and consistency to our brand and will help us to stand out from the crowd.
We will update all our signs, vans and clothing mostly as-and-when they need replacing to minimise costs and avoid waste.
