Short presentations on food topics and community on the East End

Join us for a PechaKucha-style discussion on specific food and agriculture-related topics, with presentations from individuals on the East End. Delving into topics of food security, sustainable agricultural practices, food service and farm-related labor, and more. In conjunction with The Art of Food: From the Collections of Jordan D. Schnitzer and His Family Foundation, Food Matters: The Big Picture looks at local impact within the greater food and agriculture system as it relates to our communities across the East End of Long Island.

On View | Carmen Herrera: Estructuras Monumentales

Carmen Herrera: Estructuras Monumentales features four large-scale sculptures in red, blue, yellow, and green in the Museum’s South Meadow. Carmen Herrera (American, b. Cuba, 1915–2022) is known for her hard-edge paintings, prints, and sculptures—often representing geometric shapes with both symmetrical and asymmetrical abstractions.

From the Collection of Jordan D. Schnitzer and his Family Foundation

The Art of Food focuses on food as an essential cultural component that builds communities and fortifies human relationships. Over 100 drawings, paintings, photographs, sculptures, and ceramics by 37 artists from the Jordan Schnitzer Foundation will be exhibited. The exhibition relates to the East End of Long Island’s distinguished history as one of the most important fishing and agricultural regions in New York State.

On View | Simón Vega: Tropical Space Castaways

Salvadoran artist Simón Vega creates drawings, objects, sculptural installations, and happenings inspired by the self-made informal architecture, local market stands, and vendor carts found in the streets and beaches of Central America. With his work, Vega examines the lasting effects of colonialism and the Cold War in Central America and parodies disparities between first and second-world cultures, economies, and social experiences.

On View | Across the Avenues: Fairfield Porter in New York

Comprised of 27 paintings and prints, Across the Avenues: Fairfield Porter in New York focuses on the cityscapes Porter created of Manhattan between the mid-1940s to mid-1970s. Drawn from the Museum’s vast Porter collection—consisting of over 240 works—Across the Avenues will include 23 paintings and four lithographic prints that illuminate the artist’s ability to capture New York City’s bustling energy, both day and night.

Interpretations of the Landscape from Women in the Permanent Collection

Spanning mural-sized oil paintings, expressionistic watercolors and pastel drawings, and intimate mixed-media abstractions, Beyond the Horizon will take viewers on a journey through visual styles and thematic experiences of the landscape. Featured women artists from the permanent collection capture the essence and tone of the environment through their own unique visual language.

Les Enfants d’Ouranos

New work by artist JR (b. 1983, Paris, France) presented as a large-scale, site-specific installation on the south façade of the Museum. The 200-foot-long banner, depicting children playfully running, covers much of the exterior wall and is visible from Montauk Highway.
