Lion's Leukemia Fight Fund

Donation protected
My name is Chip McClain and my wife, Tiffany and I and our daughter Charleston are close friends of the Huch family. We have started this fund to help alleviate the growing medical and living expenses for the next two years while Lion undergoes intense chemotherapy. Your generous gift will go directly to the Lion's family for immediate support. Thank you for covering baby Lion Huch and the family with your prayers and support!

Lion was diagnosed with Leukemia at 7 months old and is now in a fight for his life. Leukemia in infants under 1 year old is incredibly rare. Less than 150 cases total a year in the United States. Because of this, research is very limited and treatment is very challenging. The survival rate for infants with leukemia is 47%, but the Huchs are determined to beat this! We know Lion has a great destiny and we are believing for "miracles by the moment". Lion's parents, Luke and Jennifer Huch, are cherished Pastors at New Beginnings Church in Bedford, Texas. Luke pastors the young adults and Jennifer is the beloved children's pastor. Both have sacrificed countless hours and poured their lives and love into others for over 14 years.

Lion is in a fight for his life. We want Luke and Jennifer to be able to fully focus on caring for their child and be by his side every day, through every procedure. Lion's medical expenses are expensive and although insurance covers much of them, their are some expenses that are not covered. This fund will help with medical and living expenses during Lions two year treatment as well as with any potential future needs that arise as a result of his treatments.

How you can make a difference: We've created this page to make a way for family, friends and those who feel drawn, to share in their fight and make each day a little easier. Every cent helps. In addition to medical expenses, we want to ensure they have all the food and everyday items they need so Luke and Jen can concentrate on fighting by Lion's side.

Below is a summary of Lion’s Leukemia Fight:

On Mothers Day, 2018, Lion's parents noticed that he was not feeling well and appeared to be in severe pain. Lion rapidly developed a high fever of 104 and had a frighting episode of not breathing. Terrified, Lion was rushed to the ER and admitted to the hospital.

Doctors immediately recognized that Lion's symptoms were serious and began testing for various severe, life-threatening illnesses. After a full week of having to put Lion through multiple painful tests, doctors then explained that they needed to do a bone marrow test to ultimately check for cancer.

They waited in Lion's hospital room for the results. When the team of doctors came in, they said the words no parent ever imagines they will hear, “Unfortunately, your son has a rare form of Leukemia and the Leukemia has taken over 90% of Lion's bone marrow cells. We must begin treatment immediately."

TREATMENT:

For the next 50 days, Lion, Luke and Jennifer would be in isolation at Cook Children's Hospital for his first of many rounds of chemotherapy. Lion would undergo 5 spinal taps, 6 blood transfusions and 2 bone marrow tests, all while receiving other various medicines 12 times per day.

Lion has been put on a 2 year chemotherapy treatment plan. Surgeons have put a “central line” into his chest, allowing for the chemotherapy to be administered directly into his heart and throughout his body. He will also regularly receive spinal taps to administer the treatment into his spine. As you can imagine, these are some of the hardest things for his parents to watch him endure.

UPDATE:

On July 5th, Lion had another bone marrow test and doctors believe that the chemo is working! Lion has begun his next round of chemotherapy. Please pray with us that Lion continues to respond positively to the treatment and that there will be no side effects or life-threatening infections during this ongoing 2 year journey.

While this is the fight of his life, Lion continues to smile through almost all of it. He is incredibly strong and resilient and his parents are full of FAITH and FIGHT! Our hope is that Lion’s story and his roar will be heard around the world and that any person or family facing their own battle, will find the courage and hope to fight and to win!

Lion's story has ignited a fire of faith and prayer around the world and the Huch family's positivity has been extremely inspirational. They are truly walking by faith and not by sight! As they always say and want you to declare: “Lion is healed, Lion will live and Lion will thrive!"
