For many, graffiti still conjures up thoughts of vandalism and raw, unskilled tagging. But for others, there is an understanding that such artwork can bring vibrancy to an otherwise dull area. A splash of colour on a drab brick wall can make all the difference.
Birmingham’s one and only graffiti and street art festival, we have left an indelible mark on the city. Iconic paintings have been created, such as the Black Sabbath tribute piece marking the group’s fiftieth anniversary and the stunning piece by Phil Blake at the top of Gibb Street, the backdrop of thousands of selfies taken in recent years.
We are artists ourselves, passionate about the local arts community, and constantly blown away by the skills
of artists in the city. High-Vis is all about giving them the appreciation and chances they deserve. We want
to see the Birmingham scene reach the potential we know it has.
Overall, we have a belief in grass roots arts; whether that be graffiti, street art, comics or dance. In
putting on the inaugural High Vis Fest last September, we felt we took the first steps towards further
supporting local artists and the next generation of Birmingham based creators.
