“How to grow my art account?”,”How to get my art good exposure?”, “How to build a large Instagram following?” Are these the questions you're looking answers for? Read multiple blogs already and still confused? Then let me help you from my personal experience of building a 100k Art page! So, my art page is an art sharing platform where I curate and share artworks of different artists around the globe and help them get the exposure to their artworks. We share small accounts (whose artworks deserve all the attention) as well as bigger accounts which prove a great source of inspiration to all the budding artists out there! Getting to the point! How to build a large Instagram following? I’m listing some of the most effective tactics I found while growing my account! I will elaborate on the points in brief below.
So let’s get going!
Instagram algorithm takes into account how regularly you post and accordingly makes your post appear in your followers home feed. So, what does this mean? Let’s consider an example say where you post one post a day and then don’t post for say 3-4 days, then the “Reach” to your followers will decrease. It means they probably won’t see your post in their “Home feed”. If you’re stuck here, you can ask your followers to like your recent posts which indicates to Instagram that they WANT to see your posts! 2. Post when your audience is active, a.k.a. Post at your max reach time! To know what is your maximum reach time, you must have a business profile. If you don’t have one, just switch to business profile by going to settings of your profile. Note that you need a Facebook account to make the switch to IG business account. Go to your insights, then audience and scroll down to know about the timings. So, post on your maximum reach time in order to make your content reach maximum of your followers! 3. Use the correct Hashtags! So, you have now taken care of your “Home feed”, now let’s use the benefits of hashtags. Why do hashtags work?
So, what kind of hashtags should you use? Answer: A mix of the popular/trending hashtags and other hashtags which are less popular (less competition) such as:
4. Post pictures with an aesthetic appeal. This can include adding objects to your picture which complement your artwork like this. (Art credits to @noelbadgespugh and @hiba_tan on Instagram) This trick definitely helps, since Instagram is all about beauty. You can also use certain filters to enhance your pictures or click pictures in a certain lighting conditions like this picture below. 5. Engage with your fellow artists!
This one’s pretty simple. Engage i.e. like and comment on fellow artist’s page and build relationships. The best way to do this is by creating/joining a support group. (yes, that’s a thing) People in these groups send their posts to the group and all members like and comment on it in a few words by appreciating it. Thus, everyone benefits and creates engagement for their posts. Also, interact with your followers by asking them questions about whether they like what you post or what they would like to see next. It can also include questions about their art journeys, experiences, fav techniques, etc. A “secret”: Having a good engagement leads to wider reach on the explore! ;) If you want to know further detailed information go on to the second part of this blog!(Yet to come)
