Time to Heal

A Time for Healing…

History in the making.  While watching the votes roll in for the 2020 election my family and I couldn’t take our eyes off the screen. Coming to realization that our 46th president will be Joe Biden we had a mix of emotions. We gathered around the tv as we watched VP Kamala Harris shimmy in disbelief, and then president-elect Joe Biden took the stand. It was a long time coming.  The words that choked up my 8-year old were “It’s a time for healing…” She said, “Mom, why is it a time for healing?”  In that exact moment things got a little more real for us.

IT’S A TIME FOR HEALING.

Social Injustice, Police brutality, and the Covid-19 pandemic all has been exacerbated over the past four years.  Black Lives Matter has become a movement.  Racist are no longer in hiding. We can’t run, we can’t think, we can’t breathe. We’ve already had many tough conversations about George Floyd and Breonna Taylor but we are HOPEFUL these situations won’t happen as often in the future, and if so they pay the appropriate consequences.

It’s been tough, it’s exhausting, but it is/was reality.  It’s time to heal, means maybe we can recover from these tragedies, we can focus on repairing humanity.  We can grow and flourish knowing that if we are met with anything for ill intent won’t be tweeted while someone is devastated.

Yes, it’s a time to heal.  We all felt those words.  Now it is a time to heal.

Small Mom Win #1

My husband calls me on his break and I was so excited to tell him that I ate breakfast BEFORE 10 o’clock am. Yes, that is a first in about 10 months, lol.  I had 4 slices of veggie bacon, with a 3-egg omelette (2 egg whites and 1 whole egg), and I sipped on my coffee while it was still hot.  All while the little one was in a breast milk coma on the couch after I gave her that left boob juice. Apparently, the left boob is where it’s at.  Small mom win for me, yay!

Pescetarian Life

I was a pescetarian for a year before I knew there was a name for it.  Becoming a pescetarian was a life-changing decision for me, and that decision was made 7 years ago.  I used to get these really bad migraines daily, and they were the kind you can’t function with. The room had to be cold, dark and silent to ease the pain and I had to fall asleep and wake up on my own for the migraine to go away.  I went to numerous doctors, had all types of test done and no one could tell me what caused the migraines.  “What is a pescetarian?” Pescetarianism is the practice of following a diet that includes fish or other seafood, but not the flesh of other animals.

After 7 years of having migraines, and becoming pregnant with my first child, I’d had enough.  Something had to be done, the thought of having a migraine and caring for a newborn scared the living snot out of me.  So I had take matters into my own hands. I felt it was something I was putting into my body, so I decided to cut out all meat & seafood from my diet and reintroduce them one at a time.  I started with fish, I mean who could deny shrimp and crab! One month into it and I hadn’t had one migraine, it was crazy. I liked the feeling of being productive, I never added any other meats to my diet, and I don’t plan to.

Along the way, I’ve learned about the pescatarian lifestyle.  If you increase fresh fish and vegetables in your diet, I bet you will feel healthier, experience less headaches and sickness, as well as increased energy levels.  Long-term, you may also improve your weight, the health of your brain and heart, hair, and even your skin.

According to The New York Times, meat consumption in the United States has doubled in the last 50 years. And since then, haven’t other problems increased? Cancer, heart disease, stroke, obesity: these have all increased drastically over the past 50 years. Any connection? These trends may go hand in hand.

A Little About Me

Hello All,

I am very excited to be sharing a little bit of my life with you guys.  I have wanted to do this for quite some time, and I finally built up the courage to get started.  Let me start by telling you a little bit about myself.

I am a mom of 2 beautiful girls, one of which is only 3 weeks old!!!  I was a Division 1 athlete, playing volleyball & basketball, so staying fit and healthy is a huge part of my life.  Since college I have been working out and staying fit by taking spin classes, doing yoga, and participating in 5k mud runs.  Along with that I also changed my diet.  I am a pescatarian and have been for 5 and a half years, what the heck is a pescatarian you ask?  A pescatarian is someone who does not eat meat, but does eat fish. So, the way I stay on track with my meals to meal prep.

Yes, I have a crazy mom life juggling my own coaching schedule, with my husband’s work schedule, my 5-year-old daughter sports and social calendars, along with life of a newborn.  But I wouldn’t change it for the world.  What I hope to do with this blog is to share with you all how I am able to manage all of these things and still find time to spend with my family, workout and meal prep.

Please let me know if you have any questions or topics you want me to post about!
