Giving my pink front door the Dior look

I’ve wanted to give my pink front door a new look for some time and had grown tired of the previous look I’d had outside to greet guests to my gaff. I previously had two small olive trees in different containers and they were looking rather tired.

It’s totally true that plants make people happy but I was over the moon to receive this stunning Ribbed Vintage style Barrel from @getpotted_com and couldn’t wait to plant it up with a selection of plants from my local garden centre. I’ve wanted one of their ribbed black pots for ages and always admired them whenever I saw them! What better way to showcase the deep black contemporary finish than a combination of autumnal plants.

Before planting them up I filled the container with old ceramic broken pots to aid drainage and then some multi compost over that.

The first plant to go in was my Salix flamingo standard tree as it was quite tall. In Springtime it will have lovely pink tips to match my pink door!

To compliment this I chose a tall blue Perovskia atriplicifolia, (Blue Spires) commonly called Russian sage, which is a flowering herbaceous perennial plant and it covered the bare trunk of the Salix. The Perovskia will flower until late Autumn and in springtime again and grows best in full sun.

Next to this I planted a blue grass – Festuca glauca (Blue Fescue) – shown here at the garden centre, a small fern plant and Senecia Cineraria silver dust – a white winter plant

and finally some bright pink cyclamens around the base of the tree. I filled in the spaces with compost and watered it all in.

To finish off the look I created a beautiful fresh door wreath with flowers and foliage cut from my garden. I used orange Crocosmia, White Cosmos, deep pink petunias, purple Verbena Bonariensis, with a foliage base of Eucalyptus, Wisteria foliage and sprigs of Helichrysum. The base of the wreath was a white beach like twigs and I just inserted the blooms and foliage in a circular fashion around it.

I think you’ll agree that it looks amazing and gives my pink door that Chanel/Dior look! If you fancy having your own Dior look then head over to the @getpotted_com website to get your mitts on these stunning contemporary planters which are the best quality I’ve ever owned! They also have the best selection of planters I’ve seen so you’ll be spoilt for choice.
