Mumbai bakers get together for a fun potluck
It was a fun afternoon at a meetup of the city's talented bakers
The city has a talented bunch of food lovers who indulge in food discussions, trails and regular cookouts and that was also evident at a recent meetup of Mumbai’s home bakers. The bakers club of India’s potluck saw them bring out a variety of sweet and savoury creations, hosted by Shital Kakad who had opened her cooking studio.

Salloni Mirchandani Malkani, who spearheaded the event, talked about the idea behind having it. “This was basically a potluck, where we wanted to encourage people and form a community of bakers where they can help each other. Anybody who us interested can join in and learn. We had about 18 participants that day. They had a lot on conversations about what they baked. There were a few outstanding cakes that were made, too - to name a few, there was the
lemon cake by Tania Behl, an orange Polenta cake by Shubinder Kaur and a rose and pistachio cake and a chocolate mousse cake by Bimba Nayak. We also loved the ‘kueh’ cake by Bharti Bhojwani.”
Adds Salloni, “The meetup was a nice encouragement for home bakers. For the ones who don’t know much, it helps them improve.”
For the participants, it was a fun experience to gather together for their love for baking. Tania who has a diploma in French cuisine and patisserie, took part in this potluck for the first time. "It's great to have such an initiative in the city. You get to hear of others' experience and it's also inspiring to see so much passion," she says.
