How To Start A Cat Blog So Kitty Can Make Money Blogging

Did you know your cat can make money blogging? I bet your cat has a lot to meow about and would make a great blogger. If you have thought of ways to make money from home, while stressing about paying your bills, and just couldn’t come up with anything. Look over there at your cat, who has no worries, lazing in the sun after a full course meal (the 5th one for the day!). Then it’s time to give your kitty a job that earns her treats!

You might be laughing by now but the last laugh will be on you if you don’t see the opportunity in making your cat a blogger.

There are many cats who have their own blog (mine included), especially a famous one like Nala cat who has almost 4 million followers on instagram and is a moneymaking purr machine selling products on her website. She bought her owner a house, so if that isn’t reason enough, I don’t know what is!

A blog is a low-cost and easy way to start making money online. All you need to do is get it hosted through a top reliable web hosting company. The one I recommend offers an ideal hosting plan that makes it easy to start a blog with their 1-click wordpress install plus includes a free domain name and ssl certificate, all at a special discounted price through my link.

How To Get Your Cat Blog Started

First you will need a wordpress blog. Why wordpress? Because it is the most popular content management system for its ease of use — don’t need to be a techie — and has a large community of developers that constantly update it with tons of themes and plugins to choose from. And the best part is that it’s free.

Secondly, to be taken seriously, it must be self-hosted which isn’t free but the freedom and benefits you get are well worth the price.  And you can’t beat this low-cost hosting from $3.95 a month, which includes a free domain name and a 1-click wordpress install, making the set up easy for someone new. Which business can you start at such a low investment like you can with a blog?

Your only initial upfront cost is for web hosting since the domain name is included with the hosting plan. So you just need to come up with a name for your blog — in your cat’s name is a good idea plus can add cat or kitty to the end of it for a targeted keyword, eg like in nalacat — and check if is available.

I recommend that you use a .com domain extension and, if it’s not available, then add an extra word to it before considering any other extension.

You want to create a brand for your cat so that is why you need a self-hosted blog that is on a .com domain.

Type Of Content To Add To Your Cat Blog

You may be wondering what type of things to write on your kitty’s blog. Just look over at your cat to get some cat blog ideas from what she daily does.  Remember when I said she has a lot to meow about? That’s her cue to pipe in to tell you what to write about. After all she probably is saying one of these: “I’m hungry”, “I need petting”, “Play with me”, “I’m tired”, “Leave me alone” — where you can get ideas from.

Cat owners look for solutions to issues they have with their pets or just want to know what others are doing that might work for them too. Maybe you can share things that you do for your cat that offers a solution to what they might be needing too. Sure you can also write about your cat’s daily routine and silly things your cat does but keep in mind to have profitable content on your blog, it has to solve a problem for the cat owner.

They also like to buy a lot of stuff for their cats from treats to toys to clothes to furniture. Anything to pamper their cats more than they already are. Recommend the products you are using for your cat. Product reviews are one of the ways to make money from a blog, as explained below.

How Your Cat Can Earn Money Blogging

To make money from your blog, you will need to join affiliate programs and ad networks. Some of the ways bloggers earn money are from affiliate marketing, product sales, display ads, and sponsored posts. As your blog grows, the potential to make money from it will grow too.

Since the pet product market is a billion dollar industry, there is money to be made even just by recommending cat products from Amazon.

Best Way To Make Your Cat Popular

You will need to work on getting your cat popular so definitely, kitty will need a social media presence. I would only concentrate on instagram for that because of the huge cat community there. Let’s face it, cats are very popular on instagram so that is where you want to target your audience. Not only that, once you have a large following you have the potential to earn money on instagram and get free products for your cat — which you can review on your cat’s blog. Plus is a way to send your instagram followers to your blog too. Think outside of the cat box!

Getting Traffic To Your Cat Blog

The three sources you need to concentrate on for traffic to your blog is google, pinterest, and instagram. For google you will need to regularly publish your posts, use a good seo plugin and keyword-optimize your blog posts and titles.

Traffic definitely won’t happen overnight but if you focus on doing a few daily tasks to get it, the end result will be worth the effort.

Pinterest, with over 250 million users, should be looked at as a serious source for traffic since many blogs are making money just from pinterest traffic alone. And it’s so easy with Pinterest as you don’t need to socialize to get the traffic. Just start pinning your pins to your boards and group boards you join!

Pinterest Strategy That Works To Get Followers And Traffic To Your Blog

I don’t recommend that you focus only on one source for traffic so you always have something to fall back on, just in case one traffic source fails.

You will eventually want to have a mailing list and have subscribers for your blog. Why? Because you can send newsletters to promote your latest blog posts and products. Having a mailing list is a free source of targeted traffic you can rely on and not have to totally depend on search engines or social media to provide it. ConvertKit Email Marketing software is a popular one for bloggers.

Cat Blogger’s Checklist To Start On The Right Track

  1. Start a wordpress blog through Bluehost (use my link to get a special discount which includes a free domain name and a 1-click wordpress install).
  2. Open an Instagram account for your cat and start posting pics/videos on a regular basis to build up a following.
  3. Open a Pinterest account for your cat blog but make sure it is a business account as not only looks more professional but has some added features to keep track of how your pins are doing. You can create pins for each of your blog posts by using free images from Unsplash and designing your pins at Canva for free. (I do my own pins, like in this post, so is not hard to do once you get the hang of it).
  4. Try the free Tailwind trial to schedule up to 100 pins to pinterest or 30 posts to instagram. Combining a scheduler, with manual pinning, will help you save time on pinterest. Not only that but you get to join 5 tailwind tribes for free, with 30 free monthly submissions to the tribes, which helps to get your pins shared from your tribemates.
  5. Join Amazon Associates Affiliate Program (have some posts up on your site before you do) and start making commissions promoting amazon pet products.
  6. Join Shareasale affiliate marketing network to promote affiliate products from a variety of merchants you can choose from.
  7. Apply for google adsense (only after you’ve published 20 good quality posts with each containing a minimum of 600 words).
  8. Try Shopify 15-day free trial if you want to test out a store to sell your own products.
  9. Try ConvertKit 30-Day Free Trial to start a mailing list for your cat blog.
  10. After you have followed these steps to get your cat blog running and your cat’s instagram account is active, contact me for a free feature on my cat feature account. Just make sure you posted some quality pics on your cat instagram account,  followed @featuredmeow and tagged your pics #featuredmeow before you do.  I’ll be happy to give your cat a little exposure.

Now keep in mind your cat is the boss. It’s her cuteness that will help to reap the rewards so you, the human servant, will have to do all of the menial work to make your cat’s blog a success, which may also mean being on your cat’s schedule (up all night, sleep all day).

And don’t expect your cat to instantly cooperate for that cute pic either, so you will have to do plenty of coaxing with extra treats and petting to pose for the camera. After all, cats do what they want on their own time and not what you want at your time!

One thing is for sure, your cat blogging business will open a whole new world of opportunity, bringing you closer to your kitty, which that alone will be well worth it!
