Kaia Gerber has two of the best, bold, brunette brows in the modeling biz — or at least she did until this weekend. When she showed up backstage at New York City's One Hanson Place for Alexander Wang's Collection 2 runway presentation, she found herself getting her eyebrows bleached along with the 41 other women walking in the show.

Nars lead makeup artist Diane Kendal told Refinery29 that there was nothing profound about the decision to essentially erase 84 eyebrows. "We just wanted to make them look a bit cooler," she said, explaining that invisible eyebrows have "a very '90s feel." The same could be said for the high, sleek, chunkily-streaked pigtails many of the models wore down the runway. Seventeen-year-old Gerber seemed totally onboard with both looks, as she was seen on Alexander Wang's Instagram Stories dancing in her chair to A$AP Mob's "Yamborghini High" as the beauty team got her ready.

Bleach alone does not an invisible eyebrow make, however, especially on the darker skin tones of many of Wang's models. "The biggest mistake people make when bleaching brows on black skin is that they dye the hair lighter than the person's complexion," makeup artist Jamal Scott told Refinery29. Because the objective was to match the eyebrows to each respective model's skin tone, the brows were lightened just the right amount; then, the makeup artists blended foundation — specifically Natural Radiant Longwear Foundation, according to Nars's Instagram Stories — over them to perfect the match and help conceal any rogue dark hairs.

"It really opens up the eyes and draws major attention to them," Scott said, which is ironic considering many of the models ended up wearing sunglasses — Gerber included.

As cool as the look may be, it's also completely understandable if any of the models — for personal or professional reasons — don't want to keep it. Luckily, the makeup team was prepared for bleacher's remorse. Scott reportedly waited backstage with beard dye to help models re-darken their eyebrows. And while some of the models did take advantage of the service, several were spotted leaving One Hanson Place living that invisible-brows life.
