Bobby Shmurda is counting down the days until his release from prison 19 months down the road in 2020. The Brooklyn native called into Swaggy Sie’s show on Sirius XM earlier this week (Monday 25) from the Clinton Correctional Facility he’s being held at. The 13-minute chat found Bobby in good spirits, as he dished on his 2020 release, YBN Almighty Jay’s robbery, getting fired from his job, and more. Billboard is premiering a clip of the interview below.
The 24-year-old didn’t seem too fond of the idea of getting behind Meek Mill’s fight to help bring awareness to reforming the criminal justice system upon his release. “Like I tell people all the time, I respect what he’s doing. I can’t do it though. I can talk to the kids, but I ain’t about to be sitting here protesting and politicking for no motherfucking cops because them motherfuckers don’t care,” he explained of what he feels would be a hopeless fight. “They been killing motherfuckers since Rodney King.”
Meek actually stepped into TheShadeRoom’s comments section to respond to Shmurda’s false parallel of aligning the police with criminal justice reform. “Somebody gave Bobby the wrong information. Nothing I got going on has nothing to do with speaking up for cops,” he wrote.

On the music front, the Brooklyn native is anxious to resume his career and get back in the booth. Shmurda says he’s been stockpiling content behind bars that will be designated for mixtapes once he gets out. “I got a lot of new shit. I got a bunch of mixtapes. I got a bunch of albums ready,” the “Hot N—a” rapper asserted. “I’m just ready to go. I’m not even worried about that shit. It’s just getting better and better.”
Bobby stopped short of giving away his exact release date, but relayed that he plans to be home in 19 months. That sentiment would align with Shmurda’s mother, Leslie Pollard’s claim that her son would be released in 25 months back in October. With that said, fans can expect the GS-9 member to regain his freedom prior to the 2020 holiday season.
