Frequently Asked Questions

When are the next Master Builder Awards?

The next Master Builder Awards will take place in 2025 with nominations opening in autumn 2024. To find out more please email [email protected]

What is the deadline for nominations?

Nomination are now closed. Nominations for the 2025 Master Builder Awards will open in Autumn 2024.

Do I need permission from a client / individual to enter the awards?

Yes. Members will need to secure permission from their clients to enter a project into the project categories as photos and information about the project may be publicised on the FMB website, social media channels and in the media. Please read the entry Terms and Conditions for more information.

If you would like to nominate a Master Builder for Heavenly Builder of the Year, or an apprentice for Apprentice of the Year, we encourage you to speak to the individual first. However, if you would like to submit a nomination as a surprise you may do so.

If you are the client of the project please state this clearly in your nomination. For example if you submit your own companies offices.

The next Master Builder Awards will take place in 2025, nominations will open in autumn 2024.

How much does it cost to enter the awards?

Unlike most award schemes, the Master Builder Awards are free to enter, but you must be a Master Builder company (or employed by a Master Builder company) to be eligible to participate. You must be a member at the time the nomination is submitted or are applying for membership and will have become a member before January 2024. If you're not a member, you can start your application to become a Master Builder today to take part in the next Master Builder Awards.

Will I receive feedback on my nomination?

Due to the volume of entries received, it is not possible to provide feedback on individual nominations.

Who judges the Master Builder Awards?

The nominations are judged by independent judging panels at both a local and national level.

The first round of judging takes place at a local level to choose the category winners in each region and devolved nation. These winners are then shortlisted for the national awards, where a separate independent national judging panel will review the entries and select the winners.

Can my client nominate me?

Yes, your client can nominate you directly for the Heavenly Builder of the Year award.

For project category nominations (such as Small Renovation Project) or Building Company of the Year, we recommend members complete their own nominations as these require more detailed information about the building process and/or business. However, clients can support these entries by preparing a testimonial.

Read our top five tips for preparing your nominations for guidance to help you draft your entries.

Who can nominate or be nominated?

Nominations can only be submitted for a Master Builder company (a company which is a member of the FMB) or an individual employed by a Master Builder company. If you're not a member, you can start your application to become a Master Builder today. Nominations for 2025 Master Builder Awards will open in Autumn.

  • Due to the nature of the questions for project categories, which require details on the build process, it is recommended that Master Builder companies complete their own nominations for project categories and for the Building Company of the Year category. Any nominated projects must have been completed between January 2023 and January 2025 and all work must have been wholly completed by a Master Builder. Clients can also support these entries by preparing a testimonial.
  • Nominations for Heavenly Builder of the Year and Apprentice of the Year can be made directly by a Master Builder company, clients, colleagues, fellow FMB members or training providers. However, the apprentice or tradesperson being nominated must have worked for a Master Builder company between January 2023 and 1 January 2025.
  • Nominations for Building Company of the Year must highlight achievements and challenges that the company has faced between January 2023 and 1 January 2025.

How many times can I nominate?

There is no limit to the number of nominations one Master Builder company can make.

A project may be entered into more than one category if applicable to the criteria for each category. For example, a new home may be eligible for the House Builder Award and the Kitchen Project category if a kitchen was part of the new build and was substantially completed by the Master Builder company rather than a separate installation company. Each entry must be accompanied by a separate nomination form.

You will need to submit a separate nomination form for each unique project ─ you cannot nominate two separate projects in the same entry form.

The next Master Builder Awards will take place in 2025, nominations will open in autumn 2024.

Can I enter a project into more than one category?

Yes. You can submit a single project for multiple categories, provided it meets the category criteria. For example, a new home may be eligible for the House Builder Award and the Kitchen Project category if a kitchen was part of the new build and was substantially completed by the Master Builder company rather than a separate installation company.

You will need to submit a separate nomination form for each unique project ─ you cannot nominate two separate projects in the same entry form.

Can I submit my nomination via email?

No. Nominations can only be accepted via online submission through the FMB website. The next Master Builder Awards will take place in 2025, nominations will open in autumn 2024.
