'My camera is my life:' Funds for Michael Mbwambo

Donation protected
Our dear friend, Michael Mbwambo, a talented photographer from Arusha, Tanzania, lost his all of his photography equipment in May 2019 when it was stolen in Arusha.

For a rising talent like Michael, this was his lifeline, and this devastating loss will have a major impact on his ability to continue his life’s work. With a background in digital media and marketing, Michael was recognized in 2013 as one of Tanzania’s greatest young talents under 30 by Youth for Africa.

A photographer, visual storyteller, and creative entrepreneur, Michael devotes his life to inspiring the world with creative photography. He makes his living through portraiture, weddings, editorial, documentary photography as well as videography.

Michael often spends months in the field traveling across Tanzania documenting environmental, social, cultural issues as well as commercial work. He has collaborated on photographic projects with The Guardian, UNICEF Tanzania, UBER Tanzania among others. His work appears in Austria Women Magazine and The Guardian, UK.

With over 11,000 followers on Instagram,  he’s a Tanzanian talent to be reckoned with and we want to help Michael restore his studio so that he can continue to document Tanzanian lives and stories. He's already received bookings that he may not be able to do until he can acquire new gear.

Let’s help Michael get his life back. He lost the following, valued at $6,000 USD, and the goal is to raise this by July 31, 2019.

Canon 5DsR 24-104mm F/4
50 mm F/1.2
Speedlite
3 camera batteries
2 USB drives
1 Battery charger
5 SD memories card 32g each
1 hard drive (1 TB)
1 tripod

Michael’s friends are rallying to help him raise $6,000 in funds to recover and replace these crucial items. We’re also seeking leads for possible donations for second-hand equipment.
