Northern Manitoba Mission
On September 20th, Black Dog Rescue will be embarking on a mission to northern Manitoba where we’ll be rescuing as many dogs in need as possible. We are teaming up with local band councils and Manitoba Animal Alliance to bring much needed supplies to local pet owners before the harsh winter arrives. The overpopulation of dogs in remote areas of Northern Manitoba is gruelling with many freezing to death in the winter months as well as dog culling in an effort to control the population.
Last winter was a hard winter, temperatures plummeted below 50 and we were inundated with pictures of puppies and small dogs unable to survive the cold, often times, frozen to death. We felt so helpless. This year, we are being proactive and driving 30+ hours to remote areas of Northern Manitoba to offer our assistance and rescue unwanted dogs off the streets before winter arrives.
Oftentimes, dogs are left to fend for themselves against the hard climate, lack of food and shelter. The injured don’t receive medical help, the starving don’t get fed, the cold don’t get a warm bed, the weak simply don’t survive. It isn’t uncommon for unwanted puppies to be dropped off at the local dump without any chance of survival. Life in the great white north can be brutal for unwanted dogs.
We need your help, we cannot do it alone. We need to raise money to cover traveling expenses ( transportation rental and gas expenses) as well as vetting for these dogs. We are also collecting donations to distribute to the community to help them throughout the winter ( dog food, collars, leashes, beds, etc.).
Please share our mission, it takes a village. Without the necessary donations, these dogs will not survive another winter. No dog deserves to be left behind.
