Help Me Start My Publishing Company

Wide Eyes Publishing is focused on publishing the works of diverse men and women who want to raise hell with their truths. We intend to use this platform to amplify the voices of the marginalized, and unlike most big publishers, build authors from the ground up. 

I myself am an author. I have been approached by multiple publishers and, like a chicken without a head, have searched endlessly for a publisher that would represent me as I deserve to be represented -- but I've had no luck.  Quickly, I became a critic of traditional publishing. Most, if not all publishing houses are run like wall street. Their only goal? Making money. There is no community, no purpose, no message and very little talent -- just a selection of New York Times Best Sellers, or simple collections of “poetry” that are guaranteed to be sold to anyone who has a conscience. They only back what’s guaranteed to sell, and have no initiative to build an author with true TALENT from the ground up. After searching for days like a chicken without a head, I found no publishers I thought would be worth it for me to pursue. As an author, I want to be backed by someone who i can rely on to help spread my message. I want to be backed by someone passionate, not just deadline anxious. I want inclusiveness, not catered-to-one-type-of-person-ness. I want marginalized, I want truth. I don't want sugarcoated pain, a picture framed with the romanticism of the mentally ill. I don’t want to have the same story as everyone else, sitting daintily on the shelves of Barnes and Nobles, next to every other Milk and Honey copycat — I want original.

So I decided to create my own publishing house.
Wide Eyes is a publishing house for badass, marginalized women that want their voices to be heard. Not softly, not with “poise,” but with passion and resilience. With hunger. Its for those who wish to raise hell with their truth.

More than ever, we need the truth. We need awareness, we need understanding, but most importantly, we need compassion. I am passionate about spreading these truths, as spreading mine is what has liberated me from a life of pain and suffering. I want our readers to be able to genuinely connect, and not feel alone in this world.

I dropped out of college to pursue this dream, as I've already been doing these services for myself for the last three years. I just began to charge for editing and publishing services, when I thought to myself, why not just fully take these beautiful souls under my wing and help them to the best of my ability? After announcing the launch of Wide Eyes, I already have forty-seven submissions. Its been eight hours. I have faith in this business unlike anything else my heart has ever skipped a beat for. Upon posting that launch announcement, I'm convinced I've found my purpose.

This money will be used to register as an LLC in New York State, order ISBNS in bulk, create a website and purchase a domain, offer sign-on bonuses to my authors and to set up appointments with lawyers to begin drafting contracts for authors. I hope to reach my goal within the next month, to begin guiding my authors on the path to success.
