Please help us fix basement (mold everywhere)

King is an inspiration to us all but you’d never guess what he’s going through behind the scenes.

If fighting blood cancer (high risk leukemia) and a rare blood disorder G6PD isn’t enough our basement floods every time it rains. It is causing mold, cracks and holes that all sorts of bugs and insects crawl through and eventually make their way upstairs. In the summer time we have ant infestations throughout the house. We are also gravely concerned as this is a health hazard for not just King but for everyone. We are so grateful to have a home in this day and age but the conditions are beyond our means to repair.

$20,000 is the estimate we were given to cover waterproofing the exterior of the home to guarantee no more water will intrude the interior of the home. It will also cover removing the mold, reframing, insulation and sheetrock.

We wish we could afford it because King and his siblings deserve it and so much more. Besides being a cancer warrior he is the most helpful and amazing big brother. We’re so blessed that God chose us to be his parents. In 2017 we visited a respite home (cost free for cancer families) and they had a basement that was completely finished and King and Mesiah spent most of their time there. It broke my heart when King said mommy why can’t our basement be like this? I have been on a mission to get this completed for him, writing to countless organizations, Make A Wish, property brothers, HGTV even Ellen and to no avail. We are more than willing to be hands on in this project and participate in any way possible.

We know how happy King will be to have this as it brought him so much joy to have that space for just two days. We got estimates from a few contractors but they were too expensive and we don’t even have the credit to put it on. We don’t qualify for any government assistance. All of our savings and credit cards have been maxed out to stay afloat on medical bills, household bills and groceries as King has been on treatment for almost three years. I have tried to take out a loan on the home but my debt to income ratio is too high so I was not approved.

We have also reached out to families and friends but they are not financially stable to help in our situation. King’s grandma was diagnosed with a rare ovarian cancer in December of 2018 so that has also been a heavy burden to bare. We are begging and pleading for your help. We really have no other means to get this project completed. I have included pictures so you can get a visual.

PLEASE HELP US help King.

King was diagnosed on June 6th 2016 with a rare combination of a blood cancer called acute lymphoblastic leukemia (high risk) and G6PD which is an incurable, lifelong rare blood disorder. His treatment plan is 3 1/2 YEARS of DAILY CHEMOTHERAPY. He is up to 75 pills per month and this does not include intravenous or spinal chemo. Unfortunately, as he gets older the amount of chemo and medication he has to take will INCREASE. He is two years into treatment and has experienced several severe complications. Chemotherapy was so toxic it left him unable to walk for months (vincristine toxicity), nerve damage throughout his body (neuropathy), PTSD, brain swelling (leukoencephalopathy) and painful mouth sores are just a few side effects. The scariest part of his treatment is that it CAN CAUSE A SECONDARY CANCER and has already caused lifelong side effects.

Regardless of all that he has been through and still experiences, he does his best to enjoy each day, stay positive and spread awareness about pediatric cancer. Please feel free to visit his website to get more details on his story www.KingFightsCancer.com

His one year old sister Faith has severe skin conditions since birth and his four year old brother Mesiah had surgery for medical complications at 6 months old and also has G6PD. I am the head of the household carrying a family of 5. I also have a few major medical issues but I can’t let it stop me. It sucks to go to work and miss so many precious moments and still barely making ends meet when your child has a life threatening diagnosis since each day is even more precious and unknown. But it is even more heartbreaking that I am not able to provide a safe home for him.

We sincerely appreciate you taking the time to read our story and pleas for help!

THANK YOU SO MUCH!
God bless you and your families
