Social Media is not so Social!

We all are bounded with the digital world. Either we want or not, nowadays we are surrounded by social media, Apps, and websites so how as a user we can make a right use of digital world this article is going to talk about this.

Let us first understand the concept of social media, isn't it is a business? yeah, social media sites which now became companies with huge Market Capital are making huge money. if we see any business in the world then they must have these two things one is product what they offer & the other is users of that product. so this social media business is also same these websites are product and we are users. Is really these websites are product and we are users or it's another way around. yes, the reality is these social media websites are users and we are the product. Although these social media websites write "enter username" but they are users of our time, information, relations, as well as emotions to make money from the advertisers and we and our information, are only a product for these companies.

Second is these social media sites have influenced, "influential marketing", yes in the early era the influential marketing was completely based on opinion leaders and word-of-mouth but nowadays it is 90% depends on digital marketing, let me give an example suppose I have a friend who is quite popular in the college and by knowingly or unknowingly he likes a post of Close-Up toothpaste on Facebook then suddenly it will pop on my computer screen that "your friends likes closeup" and it will make me perceive that he is using closeup that's why he is so cool & popular, so I will also go and buy it. That's how social media have a strong influence on us now a days.

Third very frequently, we can see the advertisements on any social media website especially on videos. if we analyze the content of those videos adds then the quality is decreasing day by day but their is one in million ads that can be set as an example for other online advertisements , yes now a days we have option to skip any add in 5 secs so some companies like Zomato started delivering their content within 5 secs. Rather than focusing on how quick they can deliver content they should focus on making their content rich. Still now in India Commercials with emotional appeal to the audience. 

One of such I saw last month by HUL, their Start a little good -Water campaign has 78 Million views on YouTube & most importantly it delivered the rich quality content with a social message in 5 secs which made people click on advertiser's website instead of the skip button.

So Now-a-days use of social media for commercial purposes has increased. Lots of new Start-Ups emerged, whose complete business model is dependent on social media and they are running ads which are giving huge discounts just to pull the foot of customer on the door of their Apps. The question arises that Is social media is still so social, or its slowly becoming a commercial media?
