None of the ‘Invisible Man’ movies are all that connected, but this one still feels like the third part of a trilogy (when you don’t count ‘Invisible Agent’ or ‘Invisible Woman’). After ‘The Invisible Man Returns’ wasn’t really anything special despite popping Vincent Price’s horror cherry, ‘The Invisible Man’s Revenge’ is a bit more interesting. This is a fun movie that feels a bit more tongue-in-cheek and more fast-paced than the previous one. It doesn’t have any connection to the first two movies and the new invisible man is played by Jon Hall who does a pretty good job. This time it isn’t so much the invisibility that drives him crazy – he is already slightly mad and out for revenge to begin with. We have the great young John Carradine as the (not so mad) scientist who likes to walk his invisible dogs and comedic actor Leon Errol as Hall’s sidekick. The dart scene with Errol (wonderfully spoofed in a segment of ‘Amazon Women on the Moon’) is still pretty funny. Evelyn Ankers, who already encountered the Wolf Man and Frankenstein, is a bit wasted in a smaller love interest part. Of course this film isn’t up there with the original, but I like it more than the second part and I think it’s a pretty entertaining time. #TheInvisibleMansRevenge #FordBeebe #JonHall #JohnCarradine #EvelynAnkers #LeonErrol #40scinema #40shorror #classichorror #classiccinema #universalhorror #universalmonsters #classicmonsters #scifi #cultmovie #blackandwhite #cinephile #filmbuff #universalstudios #classicscifi #madscientist #theinvisibleman #bmovie #oldhollywood #horrorfan #monstermovie

The original ‘Invisible Man’ is one of my favorite Universal horror films and I think one of their most original and entertaining movies. The first sequel, made seven years later, is decent but not nearly as good as the first one. What’s great is that we now have Vincent Price as the (voice of) the Invisible Man. This was actually the very first horror movie for Price and he doesn’t quite have the soothing voice yet that he would later get so known for. It honestly took me a few minutes to make sure it was really him speaking. The great Alan Napier appears in a small part (also a bit further away from the kind of roles he would later play). This film is fine but it’s nothing special and doesn’t really stand out among the Universal sequels. #TheInvisibleManReturns #JoeMay #VincentPrice #CedricHardwicke #NanGrey #TheInvisibleMan #UniversalHorror #Classicmonsters #1940 #40scinema #classiccinema #oldhollywood #classichorror #classicscifi #madscientist #40shorror #ForresterHarvey #horrorfan #cultmovie #cinephile #filmbuff #monstermovie #blackandwhite #universalmonsters #universalstudios

“Prepare for new horror...so real...you’ll believe every chilling scene!” 💀⚰️🦇 On this day in 1943, and in a highly-stylized credit sequence, a giallo-esque glove wipes at cobwebs to reveal the title card of Siodmak and Siodmak’s SON OF DRACULA. An effective film rife with atmospherics and wonderful sets pieces (Dark Oaks, Queen Zimba’s lair, and the swamp drainage tunnel, especially), this Chaney-outing is set apart from the other Universal monster pictures of the 40’s primarily due to its anchor in supernatural noir, rather than an out and out horror programmer. Louise Allbritton’s Kay Caldwell is a femme-fatale cut straight from the pages of a Chandler novel, but with far more insidious underpinnings, what with her dark designs on immortality and all. Some have criticized her performance as lacking the necessary sensuality and being little more than a “blonde in a black wig,” but we disagree—her icy portrayal creates something strange and elusive; something as perversely alluring as her destructive behaviors, and rendering her both detached and...well...sexually magnetic, despite actually seeming legitimately undead. Chaney puts on a damned good show, but is miscast here—it’s hard to take his impending physical presence for what he claims: an anemic, starved, bloodsucking aristocrat, forced to the soils of the New World in search of waning sustenance; he’s far more the brawny brute of the well-fed working-class. In the end, this does allow Chaney, however, to portray all four of the anchor monsters within his career: the Wolf-Man, Dracula, the Frankenstein Monster, and the Mummy...so no real arguments here. Find the time to sink your fangs into this one if you’ve never had the chance—its heavy leanings on the trappings of film noir create a neo-gothic foray into the twilight world that demands far more attentions than it gets. 💀⚰️💀

Day 26 of #mattsoctoberhorrorchallenge2018 -
Best Horror Movie 50’s & Older - Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein -
How can you pick from all these classics? By choosing the one that has the most monsters! It doesn’t just have Frankenstein’s monster, but it has The Wolfman and Dracula too! And played by Lon Chaney Jr and Bela Lugosi! Doesn’t get much bigger than that. All the Universal Monsters are awesome!

H. G. Wells: The Invisible Man Returns !!!! Staring Vincent Price and Nan Grey , in my opinion the invisible man, especially the original, is the most bad ass Universal Monster, a madman who wants to rule the world 💜💛❤💚🎃 #vincentprice #universalmonsters #monsters #theinvisibleman #theinvisiblemanreturns #universalstudios #40shorror #horror #horrormovie #bluray #collector #collection #nangrey #nlackandwhitefilm #hgwells #joemay #fall #halloween #favoriteseason #sunday

🎃 Day 3: The Wolfman (1941) starring Lon Chaney Jr. as the Wolfman. This film, although a bit slow compared to other Universal Monster movies, has some stunning atmosphere. The thick fog and swampy-forest scenes are my favorite. Bela Lugosi also plays a role in this film, which was a nice surprise upon viewing. While not my favorite monster movie, I would agree that it is a must-see for all fans of the horror genre for its historical value alone. 📼📺

The Halloween season officially started and that's the time to watch horror movies. I've talked about the classic 30s version of 'Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde' a while ago and this time we're looking at the Spencer Tracy remake that came out just 10 years later. This version is a classic itself but I must admit I don't care a whole lot about it. It's not that director Victor Fleming didn't do a goob job, but mainly that the 1931 version is just so much better. One big reason why I prefere the '31 film is that it's a pre-code movie, meaning they could do a whole lot of wild shit they weren't allowed to do in 1941. You can actually see Mr. Hyde doing some nasty things to his hooker-friend in that one. In this, the same girl is a barmaid played by Ingrid Bergman who is a weird choice for the role. Her English accent takes some getting used to and while the performance is good, I don't really buy the scenes with her and Hyde. In this version, the worst thing Hyde does is asking her to sing for him and that breaks her down. Not quite the same level of terror you get in the pre-code film. Having said that, Spencer Tracy is pretty good in this. Another thing I'm not a fan of is the look of the Hyde character this time, because Tracy has very little make up and really just looks like Jekyll hasn't slept in a few days and got a haircut. It's nowhere near as terrifying as the beast Fredric March turned into. Lana Turner is also in the movie as Dr. Jekyll's fiance, and she doesn't get a whole lot to do. She was originally supposed to play the hooker and Bergman was the wife, which would have made more sense to me. This is not a bad movie but it just kinda leaves me cold. #DrJekyllandMrHyde #VictorFleming #SpencerTracy #IngridBergman #LanaTurner #DonaldCrisp #BartonMacLane #40scinema #40shorror #classiccinema #classichorror #shocktober #cultmovie #cinephile #filmbuff #warnerbros #oldmovies #blackandwhile #horrorfan #classicmovies #scifi #1941 #gothichorror #cinematography #horrormovie
