Recently Rescue Me has been incredibly busy. In just over a week we have had 10 adoptions and 4 kittens placed on hold 😺 Which has been absolutely fantastic because we have had several new babies come into foster care this week requiring lots of TLC 😿
Starting with two smokey brothers who were taped up in a cardboard box and left at the entrance to Petbarn Hendon last weekend. The poor workers were saddened to find these two gorgeous scared little fellows in the box when they arrived at work. They are big smoochers and are between 8-10 weeks old. Both have ringworm, so it will be a while before they are available for adoption.
We discovered two litters of kittens in the colony we have been trapping at for years. As our followers know we caught Paris and little Violet a couple of weeks ago. Sadly we lost little Violet this week. We started setting our trap again and have caught more of their siblings. A ginger boy, black and white girl and a black baby (unsure of gender at this stage). It took a bit to catch this poor baby and it is having pain relief and crate rest. It will be visiting the vet tomorrow to further assess a leg injury. These babies are nervous and are between 6-14 weeks old. All have ringworm and a heavy parasite burden, so it will be a while before they are available for adoption.
We also had a 4 month old ginger girl come into care. She turned up at a property and the kind people cared for her while searching high and low for possible owners. No one was found so she was handed into our rescue. She is an incredibly sweet and talkative young lady. She is having her vet work next week and will then be ready for her forever home.
Plus our 3 little newborns who arrived into our care only 48 hours old. Who are currently feeding from a Mumma cat. Which is fantastic!
If you would like to donate to the care and vet work of these babies our bank account details are below:

April is national adopt a Greyhound month. In Australia each year around 20,000 greyhounds are bred in the hope of finding a quick runner, but not every dog makes it to the track and these dogs then get discarded.
An estimated 18,000 healthy dogs are killed every year in the greyhound industry. That means 8,000 puppies born each year are killed simply because they aren't fast enough, 5 dogs a week are killed on the race track due to injuries that can be fixed but the owner deems them worthless as they are unlikely to ever win another race, when they aren't racing they can be kept in pens for up to 23 hours a day. Dogs aren't the only victims to this horrible industry rabbits, possums, piglets etc are used as live baiting meaning they are tied to a mechanical lure and flung around a race track at high speeds, chased then eventually mauled and killed by dogs. 4 out of 5 retired greyhounds aren't re-homed as there are just too many discarded by the racing industry to find homes for them all and because of this 10,000 young, healthy and loveable dogs are killed every year.
Greyhound Adoption Program (GAP) operates in most states across Australia but rehomes only a small number of ex racing dogs around 1000 nationally a year. So if you can offer a home to an ex- racing greyhound please consider adopting or fostering one from your local group they are gentle, loving and surprisingly they don't need a lot of exercise.
