We thought we’d treat ourselves to a ‘sea view’ spot at a campsite near Waihi (to watch the sun go down from the comfort of our boot) only to find that said view was obscured by a barrage of 20ft sand dunes. #NZproblems. A 2 minute walk around them led us to this.
I wanted to take a few pictures of the things that characterise Kiwi beaches for me - 1) the millions of tiny molluscs that cling to every rock 2) the seagulls the size of blackbirds that generally leave you alone (even when you’re eating), and 3) how it’s almost always completely deserted.
I needed a break recently so escaped to explore the wilderness area hiking solo between Katoomba and Mittagong via a lesser known route. 6 days of breathing in the sounds and smells of nature, communing with the animals (commonly the insect variety), feeling peace and freedom.
I wrote a blog for myself as much as anything so it's long - but if you want some inspiration for a hiking trip of your own (or some procrastination!), feel free to have a read on the blog page of the website :-)
