You’re never too young for a massage right! 💆🏼♀️ More importantly I’m trying to instil in my kids the value of self care and preventative healthcare. ⠀
For far too long massages (and other allied health treatments) have either been seen as luxury, self indulgent treatments or a last resort measure when that crick in your neck has got so bad you can’t even check your blind spot when you’re driving. ⠀
Can we please be done with that kind of thinking If this 👆🏻is you no judgement just a gentle permission slip for you to look after your body in a loving and kind way.
HAPPY 5th BIRTHDAY to us!!!! What a wonderful 5 years it has been! Thank you to this amazing team of people who show up everyday with such fabulous energy all to help their communities to health through exercise. I can’t wait to see what this group can achieve over the next 12 months across our clinics in Morayfield, Kilcoy, Wagga Wagga, Cessnock, Maitland and Penrith. Thank you to all that support us and help make what we do so amazing.
We have a selection of men’s and women’s orthotic thongs in the clinic for you to choose from for summer ☀️ We have a number of patients that are pleased with their comfort and support and we can’t agree more! Curious Drop by the clinic and check them out 👣
Hot springs! 👏🏼💦 I could’ve honestly stayed all day 😌
So what makes it feel so good, why should we soak in hot springs and why is it good for your health
Countries like Japan 🇯🇵 widely use hot springs or Onsens daily, and find huge benefits for overall health. 🔅Well apart from the fact that it forces us to relax, it helps to boost circulation! Heat causes vasodilation of our blood vessels, meaning it increases blood flow Increased blood flow is great for muscle injury, post exercise recovery and if you just have any niggles and pains. 🔅Hot springs also contain essential minerals such as magnesium (you know how much I love magnesium 😅), calcium and sodium bicarbonate. Our bodies just love to soak these up to help our bodies and muscles function better. 🔅Hot springs help you to reduce stress and increase sleep!! (Who doesn’t love a good sleep!) 😂 it will help to relax muscles that we often tense whether its work related or stress related. The heat and the cooling down after will help your body to relax and get ready for a deep sleep 😴 🔅Allows free-er movements! Being buoyant in water allows easier exercise and movement- so this is great for weight bearing joints such as your hips, knees and ankles 👍🏼 🔅Also if you can’t manage to get down and find some amazing hot springs, run a bath! Or grab a container and just soak your feet. Put some Epsom salts in and maybe some essential oils and make it a DIY 😂🙌🏼 A foot soak is great because it forces you relax! And I mean, who wants to get up and walk around with wet feet! 😋🙌🏼
Double tap if you agree 🙌
Oh boy did I learn this lesson the hard way 😭
For so many years I struggled to build a profitable private clinic and every time things were tight... marketing & advertising would be the first thing to go BUT things only got worse!!! I had even less clients and even less income 😬
Until a mentor at the time shared this quote with me and it really hit home... how could I be expecting growth in my business when I was just sitting on my hands and waiting for the clients to come to me
From that moment on... I always invested in advertising and cut back on everything else... then finally things started to change 🌟 .
If your business is not growing as much as you would like it to... could the reason be that you too are sitting on your hands, waiting for the clients to come [just like I was!] Katie x

Injured body part #2
Three shots of my elbow today after visiting Physio at what is the most architecturally appeasing Hospital I have ever visited.
The scar from where a plate and screws have been inserted, is flattening out well, compared to the last photo, which was 2 days before I left my long stint at the RBWH & still had stitches in.
After an analysis by the Physio, there is still some distance to go with my healing. Thank goodness I can touch type with one hand, and I'm kacky handed.

Has your child got the right backpack
Did you know a poorly fitted or incorrectly sized back pack can cause some stiffness in the back, neck and shoulders, increasing the risk of bad posture or even injury With over 4 million Australian children returning back to school in the last week, it’s important to recognise how the combination of sitting at desks and carrying back packs all day can affect a school aged body – particularly adolescence.
Osteopathy Australia have compiled some great tips on what to look for in a school bag (or even a work/uni bag) and how to correctly wear them to protect your or your child’s back. You can check it out here: https://www2.osteopathy.org.au/news.php/75/going-back-with-the-right-backpack
One of those most important tips is education. Teach your child the importance of wearing a bag correctly and how it could cause serious injury to their spine, shoulders and neck if they don’t wear it right. Regularly check in with them to see if their bag is still comfortable and adjust if necessary. It is also important to encourage kids to remove their shoes and play outside for at least half an hour. 30 minutes of varied movement can unwind the body from the rigid positions a child is expected to hold throughout the day.
If your child is experiencing any pain or discomfort, make an appointment at All About Movement to have them checked out. Our Osteopaths can assist in postural problems, sports injuries, knee and heel pain, neck and back pain and so much more.
Have you met MAMA’s new nutritionist, Josie⠀
If not, here’s a little about her!⠀
“I graduated from the College of Naturopathic Medicine in London, England in 2012 following three intensive years in training as a Naturopathic Nutritionist.⠀
Following the birth of my twin girls in early 2017 I chose to shift my focus towards a women’s, mothers and family centred approach.⠀
My first-hand experience of pregnancy, postnatal recovery and raising twins whilst staying optimally nourished, presented a series of challenges, at a time of critical nutritional and emotional requirement. These experiences led me towards the support of expectant and postpartum mothers facing similar challenges.⠀
My experience and research has bought with it a wealth of knowledge and achievable practices to influence optimal physical and emotional health. These natural, often traditional practices are designed to nourish you in the short and long term.⠀
Main areas of focus;⠀
• Nourishing through pregnancy⠀
• Postnatal replenishment⠀
My approach to nutrition is fad-free and not dictated by any single dietary school of thought.”⠀
Josie has a really special talk coming up this Friday 8th February, which is EXCLUSIVE to MAMA! Places are filling fast, but there’s still time to book yours!⠀
Date: Friday 8th February⠀

Why the name Loft & Earth
Well first to the point Loft & Earth is situated in a loft space in the heart of Bondi Junction 😋,with large rafters and beams that give rise to an extensive light-filled area.
The Earth, of course, is the Loft’s natural partner. Earth represents the grounding, the structure and the ability to hold and stabilise the heights of the loft. It is also where roots can be established to anchor and give rise to a strong and well-founded creation.
We as humans also have both of these components; we have a physical, earthed, structured body with lots of needs, a body that has to be maintained and supported as well as an inner being that wants to soar and reach to the heights of our spiritual nature that needs an anchor to come back to.
The most important thing for us at Loft & Earth is having an outlook that incorporates both of these aspects and holds the two in balance.
Loft & Earth is a shared space that invites everyone to contribute to maintaining this harmony. We, the practitioners and event holders, want a place to work from and in which all the people who visit us, can feel the vibe that we strive to create and uphold in our space and through the work we do.
Theres a lot that goes into the creation process of a logo... isn’t there 😉
[ON THE PODCAST] 🎙🎙🎙 Do you know the ins and outs of running a successful allied health business
Many allied health business owners ask me, “How do I learn the business side of things” 🤔
When I was at university doing my occupational therapy degree, there was not a single sniff of any sort of business education. But, more and more universities are recognising the need to build business awareness into the final year of the undergraduate courses.
This will not only benefit those coming through the schools now, but it’ll also benefit existing allied health business owners. When recruiting, you’ll have your pick of the bunch of graduates with some great business understanding and business language already under their belts.
There are some things you can do improve your business skills including reading business books, listening to podcasts, engaging with the industry online and collaborating with your customers. I talk more about these in my Private Practice Made Perfect Podcast.
Perhaps the most important tip is to be patient. Just as it's taken years and years for you to hone your clinical skills, it is also going to take time, love and investment to develop your management and leadership skills.

🔴How to Fix Knee Valgus (“Knock Knees”)🔴 [Stretch Edition - Part 1 of 2]
🔸 Knee Valgus refers to when the knees or knee angle inwards.
It is often accompanied by:
🔺Hips and thigh twisting inwards (Hips Internally Rotated)
🔺Flattened Foot Arch (Pronated Foot)
So what is happening to our body:
▫️TIGHT TFL (Outer Hip Muscle)
▫️TIGHT Adductors (Inner Thigh Muscles)
▫️TIGHT Vastus Lateralis (Outer Quadricep Muscles)
▫️TIGHT Biceps Femoris (Hamstrings)
▫️TIGHT Lateral Gastronemius (Outer Calf Muscle)
◾️WEAK Glute Medius and Maximus (Weak Butt Muscles)
◾️WEAK VMO (Inner Quadriceps Muscle) ◾️WEAK Medial Gastrocnemius (Inner Calf Muscle)
🔸Knee valgus can lead to Patellofemoral (knee) pain, ACL tears, and iliotibial band syndrome. It can also lead knee or knees collapsing inward during a squat or lunge. STABILITY, STRENGTH ,FLEXIBILITY & MOBILITY together can address Knee Valgus.
Try these exercises as a START:
🔸1. Adductor Rock - On all fours push out 1 leg away from you and get it as low as you can. Rock back and forth. Try and get your butt to touch your heels. Progressively get your inner thigh closer to the ground.
🔸2. 90/90 - Get both knees at 90 degrees while one side is externally rotated and the other internally rotated. Rock across on the heels as you maintain upright and stable upper body posture. You may progress by doing it without your hands, or regress but turning your body with your legs. —————————————————
🔸3. Multi-Plane Dorsiflexion Stretch - Kneel down and get your butt to touch your heel. Keep your heels firmly on the ground and place a Kettlebell in a comfortable position on top of your knee. Force your knee to the ground pushing past its range of motion and explore the other planes by rocking side to side as well (sagittal and frontal planes of motion).
🔸 4. Ankle Dorsiflexion Stretch (with Kettlebell and Resistance band) - Similar to 3, take the stretch further by hooking a band to the ankle and getting a heavier kettlebell
and push your knee to the floor. —————————————————
What is Exercise Physiology
Exercise Physiology is the prescription and delivery of reliable, evidence based scientific exercise therapy to assist with an abundance of acute and chronic conditions.
Exercise Physiology has been extremely underutilized in years past but I am extremely happy to see the progress it has made in the allied health arena. People are beginning to understand the importance of the profession and most importantly the importance of exercise. Exercise IS medicine. Simples.

Tag someone who does a lot of RUNNING ;) if you are an avid runner or you plan on doing single leg work in the gym (like lunges) it’s imperative that you ensure your glute medius muscle is nice and strong 💪🏼
For this exercise, you need to know how to adequately anteriorly and posteriorly rotate your pelvis, so if you are not sure how to do that, go back to my previous video 😏.
Make sure you do the following 👇🏻
1️⃣ Stand on one leg and slightly posteriorly Rotate your pelvis so you can find your neutral
2️⃣ Now I want you to SLOWLY hitch the opposite hip up towards the ceiling. 👆🏻
3️⃣ You want to ensure you feel it just behind your hip bone and a little higher on the standing leg. If you feel it around your stomach, you need to stop and RESET as your abs are doing the work and that’s not what we want!!.
Let me know how you go ☺️ Click the link in my bio if you need 😏

"Over the years the team of practitioners I have worked with, from doctors to physiotherapists and naturopaths, has grown, as has my patients’ abilities to achieve wellness. The insights I gathered while observing this phenomena of integrative medicine led me to envision a place where patients could receive comprehensive health care that employed a range of modalities.
I'm excited to offer this vision as a reality @thehealthlodge, where over 20 health care practitioners are available in the one, convenient medical clinic to help patients manage and maintain their most precious asset of health" - Reine DuBois, Clinical Director >> Learn more at www.thehealthlodge.com.au #integratedmedicine #chronicillness #medicalretreats #goodhealth #patientcare #doctors #alliedhealth #byronbay
Happy Monday! 🙌🏼👣 look after your feet! #shoecrush
#motivationmonday first official day back at work for 6 weeks. It’s not all been Netflix and chill (though a lot has). Have had a lot people comment on the luck of having this amount of time off. What they haven’t seen in the lead up is the 80+ hour weeks, the phone calls in the car when others listen to music, the telling kids...just one more moment, jet lag, the extra takeaway just because it’s quicker, the juggle of work, life, friends etc. I do love it, I just love it so much that having a check out means I get to keep loving it. ⠀
Hoping your Monday is awesome too! ⠀

CORE: traditional or forearm What is your preference
This position actively engages the #core, #glutes, #triceps, #biceps, #shoulders. The whole body.
What’s great about it is that it sets the foundation for your #pushups. Alignment is one of the benefits of a #plank as it further improves your #posture and awareness of your body positions. 👍🏽 Tip: when performing planks on your forearms, ensure that your palms arm not in a clasped position. This will help to open the chest, engage the shoulders, triceps and so on.
