In the back of Mr. Iyengar’s book “Light on Life” there is a list of asanas for emotional stability. When that sequence is followed it relaxes a person totally, he describes. We’ve all experienced emotional turmoils; feelings of being lost without a clear sense of direction. In this intelligent sequence each illustration of the poses contains arrows indicating in which direction the body needs to move. Here in Niralamba Sarvangasana (unsupported shoulder-stand), the head turns in towards the heart, the back of the body lifts and the legs reach on a slight diagonal creating a sense of internal balance. These poses are capable of stabilizing our physical, mental and emotional bodies. Reading about the effects of practice can be inspiring - but experiencing them is where the real transformational power of yoga is found.
The poses work in association with each of the limbs of the Ashtanga (eight limbs) system. One of the niyamas (the second limb: internal observances) is santosha which means contentment. In my experience, it is easier to practice Niralamba Sarvangasana than to practice santosha when emotionally disturbed! But ironically, uncomfortable emotions (sadness, anger, fear) can teach us HOW to be content. It is easy to accept the feelings we enjoy like happiness. If we can accept uncomfortable emotions and work with them, rather than resist them we are learning how to be content. The same way asanas can improve the circulation of our blood in the body so can santosha improve the circulation of our emotions.

✨Yoga For Menstruation✨

I made this a couple of weeks ago, but thought it was fitting to post today as I got my period on the plane ride to Cancun yesterday 😂😂 (good thing I brought extra leggings with me as a carry on!) So let’s talk about exercise and periods - yes or no? Inversions or no inversions? Every body and every cycle is different! I honestly do what my body tells me to - if it’s taking it easy and cancelling all my plans, I’ll do that 😆 If it’s going hard and doing hours of handstands, I’ll do it 🤸🏻‍♀️ This time, cramps were bad as I was stuck on an airplane for hours 😭😭 Sometimes, I just want to curl up in a ball, but doing some of these gentle yoga poses help tremendously 👇🏼👇🏼 .

Child’s pose - stretches the low back muscles to soothe back aches; hold for a minute or two
Cow/cat - slow movements arching and rounding the spine to relieve menstrual cramps; inhale to arch and exhale to round 10-20 times (or however much needed)
Standing forward fold - lengthens spine and stretches hips; eases pain by stretching hamstrings/calves/back (knees can be bent to modify!); hold for 5-10 breaths 
Knees-to-chest pose - relaxes low back and ab muscles, relieving tension and reducing pain; hold for a minute or two
Supine twist - stimulates/detoxifies/refreshes inner organs: hold for 5-10 breaths each side 
Reclined butterfly - ground down with one hand on the stomach and other hand on the chest. Feel the support of the ground beneath and bring awareness to the breath, with every inhale and exhale, focus and redirect attention away from the pain 🙏

We feel the effects of #suffering, we feel yucky, bad, frustrated, annoyed etc. So how can we #work on this? In my classes this week we will look more closely at when we start to hear that #voice "I don't like this..." And see what are we #feeling, #thinking, #doing that we don't like? Is it the pose itself or is it the story we've imagined and dramatized that has made it out to be something worse than it is. Lots of times we imagine things/past experiences to be worse than they are in #reality.

So I invite you to take a deeper look, notice the #mind, it's #dialogue and your #reaction to it. Is there #truth to the minds story or is it mostly #fiction? Can we learn to lessen the #aversion and therefore lessen our suffering? Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes, you can.

Yoga has been my sacred space since I was 12. My mom worked at nights and as I spent dark nights alone, I plummeted into a deep depression. 
Eventually, I turned to the yoga tapes available at the library and Rodney Yee was my first teacher.

Since then, I've always identified as a Yogi even when I spent no time on my mat. In the darkest times in my life, I find my way onto the mat once again.

A few months ago, I underwent my journey to become a registered yoga teacher. I'm nearly done and feeling all the feels. I'm honored to be a part of this community and humbled by the journey to come.

Mucha gente cree que los detox son únicamente desde la alimentación y aunque hace parte, no lo es todo.
Se los voy a explicar desde el yoga; el Prana es la energía vital que nos nutre en todos los aspectos y está en absolutamente todo. 
Entra a nuestro cuerpo a través de los sentidos y nos carga según sea "su calidad" positiva o negativamente. 
Así mismo todo lo que "entra" se debe metabolizar y dejar ir.

También hablamos de 3 cuerpos el fisico, el astral y el causal y cada uno necesita su proceso de limpieza para realmente sentirnos bien a nivel físico, mental, emocional y espiritual y que esa sensación se sostenga en el tiempo.
