People always wonder how I'm able to eat the same bland meals 90% of the time or why the gym will be my priority and trump most social events. It's because I love what I do, I think it's amazing that we are able to manipulate our appearance through diet and training, and I'm in love with the process of it all. I do it because I love this shit and It's the reason why I get up every morning 🙏

“I can’t feel my lats! Can you help me?” Not being able to activate the lats is one of the most common problems I see. Regardless if you train for sports or for aesthetic goals you should learn how to since they’re capable of producing a lot of force. Here are some suggestions if you can’t feel the lats working, whether it be in rows, pulldowns or chins.

Use a full range of motion (ROM). Very rarely do I see people do this in any form of lat exercise. Note that full ROM isn’t simply when the elbow is extended. For instance in a pulldown you must let the arms come up fully, release the shoulders, and pull all the way to your chest.
.
Focus on pulling with your elbows rather than your hands. This helps most people who complain they only feel their biceps. Imagine that you’re elbowing some evil trainer behind you rather than pulling a weight or yourself.
.
Hold the contracted position for 3-5 seconds each repetition. This will make the exercise much harder but it will help strengthen the mind-muscle connection.

Use straps. This helps people who feel too much forearm fatigue. Taking the grip out of the equation will let you focus more on the lats.

Another tip for getting less focus on grip is to use a thumbs over-grip, meaning you put the thumb on the same side of the bar/handle as your other fingers.

Lower the weight. Too much weight can lead to too much body English. Go high reps and lighter weight until you’ve learned to activate the lats properly.

Switch up the exercise. I’ve helped people who had never felt their lats until I had them do straight arm pulldowns. After a few sessions of that they couldn’t stop feeling the lats in any exercise! So if what you’re doing isn’t working, switch and find something that works better for you and apply the tips above.
