Day 7. This was a completely different experience from the festivals I had been to so far.
A friend @jolietu recommended I stay in Shiomi House Island Village Hostel located on Sa Island. The island is off the main path of Shiminami Kaido in the Ehime prefecture. There were no convini's on this island and all the shops closed at 1600.
It felt weird being in such an empty town, but it was worth it. I arrived tired, hungry, and a little under the weather. It was cold and raining in the morning and, as noon came, it became wet, hot, and humid. There wasn't a period throughout the ride where I was truly comfortable. However, I found a bit of comfort at the hostel; I was welcomed with a hot shower and later a home cooked meal. To my surprise, I had picked the perfect time to stay in this small village. That night there was a Bon Odori in the village. It wasn't what I expected a festival to be; it was small and uncrowded, everyone was so nice and personable, and it was cute; no one was a stranger.

This is what happens when I ask @naplespap to take a photo of me swimming. 30 photos later, he’s captured my entire indecisive process of getting in the damn water. First I decide to enter shoeless, with beer. Then I decide ‘eh, it’s pretty rocky. Probably should grab the shoes.’ Then back in I go, determined that I’ve solved all problems. Not long after, I realize that (shocker), the beer is a hindrance. So out I come to ditch the beer. Finally, all the stars align and I’m able to enjoy a swim. Lol 🙄

Sometimes the ocean and some palmtrees is all you need 🌴 agree ✌🏽
Koya-san was such a peaceful little town, surrounded by mountains. One of my Japan highlights for sure 😍
Day 5 of our advent calendar of #Ethicaleles tips. Bees help elephants, but how Well it isn’t a myth that elephants are scared of bees, as story be told, elephants are fearful of the bees flying up the trunk and into the ears 🐘🐝 The fact that elephants run away when faced with a swarm of bees goes in their favour when living near to human settlement. @kindredspiritelephantsanctuary are the first semi wild ele project to introduce beehives as a way of protecting crops by scaring of elephants from the land - reducing conflict with local villagers. You can find out more about the project on our website - www.thailandelephants.org/bees-for-eles - By sponsoring a beehive you will be helping to support a new project which aims to alleviate the need for night time confinement for their 🐘 aswell as help a local community in learning a new way of living with free roaming elephants. 🐘🐝 Plus you may get a bee-autiful Karen gift pack ❤️ #thailand #charity #elephant #bee #beehive #christmas #gift #karenhilltribe #chiangmai #adventcalendar #rideabikenotanelephant #thailand🇹🇭 #backpacking #wastefree #zerowastegift #bees #elephants #sponsor
