9 years ago today I received a donor heart from a man who was hit by a car walking home. I am forever grateful. Today is a heavy day but also a day of celebratation of life, of rebirth, of transformation. I want to send love to all those I have crossed paths with throughout this lifetime and hope peace can be found deep within all of you. Be good to your heart physically, mentally, and spiritually and live each day with light and generosity to yourself and others!

Today is the last day of American Heart Month! Have you been good to yours ❤️ ❤️Yesterday I had the privilege of speaking to 25 Bixby Medical Center employees, and 3 special guests, about spontaneous coronary artery dissection. The cardiovascular department’s bulletin board this month also highlighted SCAD. (I’m pretty proud of our CV crew for that board.) ❤️ SCAD is important to increase awareness about, especially for women. It is a spontaneous dissection of a coronary artery that often leads to heart attack. 90% of its victims are healthy women. ❤️ The takeaway If you are a woman who experiences heart attack symptoms, get to the emergency department. Heart attacks are not reserved for those who are unhealthy or over 50.

January I was diagnosed with severe hypertension. My blood pressure was averaging 200/100. When I saw my doctor he told me I needed medication immediately or I would suffer a heart attack and/or stroke. Little did I know any of this was going on! Then I was diagnosed with central sleep apnea just a few weeks later. There is something wrong with my brain and it stops signaling me to breathe when I’m asleep. Hopefully the end of this week or next week I’ll have a breathing machine which not only will help me breathe and increase my oxygen intake, but it will also help my heart which is working on overload. Today a bunch of us from our Runclub did something different: we took on the stairs inside our local arena in support of "Step up 4 Cardiac Care" hosted by our local Fraser Health Foundation. Basically we climbed up and down and around inside the arena for as long as we could within a two hour window. Some people made 15 and 16 times around! Me, I only did 6 rounds! Lol! .

As of February 28th, I will no longer be teaching fitness classes with CVFF. With a five month old baby in the house, it has been more challenging to participate in other fitness classes than I had anticipated. Luckily, someone reached out to me to participate in wellness&health coaching, and the program allows me to work out from home or at the gym in our building - when life allows.
I am really enjoying my new routine as I don’t have to carry my boy to the gym(he is getting heavier and heavier!) and I don’t need to worry about my boy fussing and bothering others. The program is well designed, I can play with my boy between exercises and even include him from time to time - he makes a great weight. And also he gets physical activities!
This is a part of the prone exercise I did other day - downdog then leg bending. I’m a firm believer that in order to get a good result we need to be consistent. To achieve that with my new lifestyle, I am best working out 30 minutes everyday as opposed to longer less frequent exercises.
