Support your local Blood bikers, you never know when you might need their services. Those special guys and girls give up their spare time to help others, totally free of charge. They don't just transport blood. They also transport donated milk to sick babies. #BloodBikeDay
SERV Suffolk and Cambridgeshire are deeply honoured to present our brand new blood car.
The blood car was funded by the Mark Benevolent Fund and was officially handed over today as part of National Blood Bike Day.
A huge thank you to the Mark Benevolent Fund and the Mark Master Masons for their very generous donation and support of Bloodbike charities throughout the UK.
The car will be going into official bloodrunning service this weekend. Look out for it on the roads around Cambridgeshire.

SERV is staffed by dedicated volunteers who give their time during night time and weekends and use their own vehicles to deliver blood, blood products, samples, donated breast milk and other clinically urgent items every night and all day at weekends free of charge to the NHS.
Each regional SERV group receives no government funding, its costs being met by donations from members of the public, local businesses, charitable grants and awards.
#BloodBikeDay on Friday 17th August is raising awareness for the volunteers up and down the country who provide this service for free.
A typical night on duty for this Cambs and Suffolk volunteer would be a call from the controller at 2.15 am with a request to take a product such as platelets from Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge to the rendezvous point in Bury St Edmunds where the product would be transferred to another waiting volunteer who would then take in on to the Ipswich Hospital. The first volunteer might be able to return to bed at around 4am.

These volunteer groups provide an incredibly important service which most people are completely unaware is a volunteer service and not one funded by the NHS. I worked in the NHS for years but only found this out because one of my daughter's teachers is a volunteer and did a fund-raising event. Please spread awareness of these heroes!

So as we celebrate the professional and dedicated guys and girls of Blood-bikes, who provide a service to our hospitals and hospices across Cornwall, 365 days a year, in all winds and weathers, all for FREE.
We send a heartfelt thank you to you, the public, for the truly spectacular support you give to our volunteers and our charity.
Today is National Blood Bike Day raising awareness for this wonderful charity that provides out of hours services to the NHS. Staffed by volunteers like me #NABB #BloodBikes #bloodbikeday https://www.bloodbikesdevon.org.uk/get-involved/regular-giving/donate-online
Today is National #bloodbikeday and these amazing volunteers give up there time for free to which most do a full time job in the day and then out at night providing the #nhs and air ambulance with a 100% free service and when there not working or on call they are out at events or on the streets raising awareness to the public of what they do to raise money keeping this free service available.
But without these volunteers and donations you, a family member or even a friend or work colleague may not of got that urgent blood or even much needed donated breast milk
This is why in to weeks i am running battle 10k and then In 5 weeks I’m doing a 10 mile tough mudder event to try raise £1000 for our local blood bikers SERV Sussex
If you would like also support both me and these volunteers you can donate via the link below

Donor Baby Milk
Donor mothers undergo health and lifestyle screening, also blood tests for HIV, Hep B&C, Syphilis and HTLV
Milk is expressed hygienically in the donor’s home, frozen and collected regularly by milkbank staff
Milk is defrosted, pooled and bottled using tamperproof lids. NO mixed pooling between mothers
Milk is tested. Bottles with bacteria above recommended safe levels are discarded
Milk is heat treated to 62.5oC for 30 mins to ensure a completely safe product. We transport that milk from hospital to hospital for babies in Neonatal units and Special Care that urgently need the goodness of breast milk #bloodbikeday
Despite being sleep deprived, here are some of our very happy controllers! #bloodbikeday
Did you know since we started SERV Suffolk and Cambridgeshire we have transported over 10,000 boxes!!!! ❤️❤️ #bloodbikeday

Join us tonight for a special performance from the awesome CHALO ACE, in support of National Blood Bikes Awareness Day 2017!⠀
Today we join #BloodBike groups nationwide in celebrating #BloodBikeDay. This is a national day to raise awareness, and celebrate the work of, the ~1500 blood bike volunteers up and down the country.
Shropshire Staffordshire Cheshire Blood Bikes has around ~220 volunteers distributed across all three counties we serve. With this in mind there’s likely to be one (or more!) of our dedicated volunteers living in your local community. We would like everyone to join us in thanking the men and women who give their own time in order to provide a valuable service to our communities and local NHS.
Why not show your support by posting on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram using the hashtag #BloodBikesDay don’t forget to tag us too
