I’ve always felt the best and worst thing about having memories is the same. They’re nothing but Polaroid’s, taken of a life that didn’t last, of moments that didn’t stay, of people who walked away. But memories are also reminders of what once was. Of reassurance that all wasn’t as bleak as our mind is convinced was. That some of those hastily taken snapshots did give you a lifetimes worth of happiness in one single frame, that there was one person who showed you, what it meant to have something and then lose it.
The funny thing about these memories is also that they have a life of their own. They creep up on you, uninvited and overstay even when they’re not welcome. But if you learn to harness their ability to tell stories, then you’d have hit gold. Just like Jeanette Winterson has.
Winterson like all children, had to live out her parents unlived lives for them, she didn’t really have a choice. Adopted children like her, have to live a third life too. One that started in a void, a question mark; like a crucial part of their story was gone, and violently. She writes with urgency of her childhood, the bleakness of her existence, of the anger that burned dangerously close to the surface. There’s desperation in her writing, to fill some unattainable corner of her heart that her childhood left barren.
It is sad to read in content, but is uplifting in its context. Because she has rewritten the hurt, she has traced the past into a new present, where the outlines of it are there but are now blurred by the lines that she, in her present, so forcefully draws.

I hope to one day catch a person with their arm outstretched as far as it will go in front of them, taking a picture of a book. I will be sure to make them feel even more awkward than they are already feeling, then ask them for their bookstagram handle.😄
💫 Thanks to everyone who voted in my (stories) poll. I present to you:
• photo 1 that won majority vote vs.
• photo 2, which is what *I* would’ve chosen (& had the least amount of votes by far/out of 4 pics).
📝 Dreamy, surreal, breathy—I really enjoyed Mohsin Hamid’s writing. His words felt like a cloud that whisks you comfortably afloat; all the while, as you’re in this sleepy, dreamy, cloudy state, the neighbors are being plucked off one by one by stray bullets and shrapnel due to an imploding civil war, and you are awoken suddenly out of the fog by the fuss, but the death already happened and we’ve already moved on so fast forward over the messy, bloody details because we ain’t got time for that and now you’re in California!
That is how I felt reading this book.
I was utterly captivated by the budding romance between Nadia and Saeed in their unnamed country of origin when the the magical realism kicked in and lost me—not due to the low key, blunt, fantastical elements, but rather, due to a plateau in the emotional depth of the story. Hamid had such important points to illustrate about the state of the refugee’s peril, but we weren’t given enough substance to flesh it out. This is a rare instance when I felt the novel needed to be longer to fully capture the weight of the story, probably like my review, like “what are you really trying to say, anna this vaguely makes sense, you need to explain more.” Ok, Byeee!
Still, I enjoyed this beautiful book, thanks to @euraemuhn.

Happy Sunday everyone!! 🖤 I hope everyone’s had a lovely weekend!!
QOTD ~ Which book or series would you love to see get a novella 📚🖤 I think it would be so cool if the An Ember in the Ashes series got a novella or short story (as long as it’s a novella where all the characters are happy and having a good time 😂) I’ve only read the first book in this series though as Sabaa has a reputation for breaking hearts and I’m not ready 😭😂 The fourth book isn’t coming out till 2021 too and the wait might just kill me 😂
I was also tagged by the lovely @samslibrary_195 for the #daysoftheweekinbooks!!
🔥 Monday (too lazy to read) ~ Iron Gold... I love the Red Rising but that book is MASSIVE and I’m kind of scared as I’ve heard mixed reviews!!
🔥 Tuesday (emotionally difficult) ~ Ninth House falls into this category!!
🔥 Wednesday (didn’t finish) ~ Stolen Songbird but that was totally my fault and not the book 😂
🔥 Thursday (wouldn’t recommend) ~ I’m not sure as all reading is subjective!! But maybe I wouldn’t recommend John Green as I personally think there’s a lot better contemporary out there 😅
🔥 Friday (anticipating) ~ Aurora Burning!!
🔥 Saturday (can’t wait to read) ~ Starsight!!
🔥 Sunday (didn’t want to end) ~ Serpent & Dove!! I’m excited for the next book!!

Happy Sunday friends! I’m feeling much better today, but thanks to spending most of yesterday in bed, I finished this stunning novel. 📖 BOOK REVIEW 📖
Wow. Long Bright River was amazing. Hard to read but amazing.
I loved following Mickey, who’s a cop. She’s risen above her upbringing, something her sister wasn’t able to do. When her sister goes missing + women start getting murdered, Mickey starts looking for her because she’s worried. This causes her to do some things she wouldn’t normally do, but it made the story feel even more real.
I loved the flashbacks to Mickey and Kacey’s life growing up and the now. I loved reading this one, even though it was a tough subject (opioid addictions). I thought the author did a really great job at showcasing both sides of this topic and I was satisfied with the ending 🎉 I also have to say that I honestly had no idea who was behind the murders which made for a bit of a shock but it was so good!
I feel like Mickey was a great protagonist. There were things she did that I didn’t love, and a few things she did that I was like “what are you doing!” But it made her seem even more real and I connected with her even though her life was so different than mine.
I definitely recommend picking this one up. It’s officially out in January, but I picked it as my @bookofthemonth book for December. Loved this one though 💕
• If you get a winter/holiday break what are some things you want to do during your time off
I actually start work on the 23rd but have very few hours right now so I'm planning to get through some more Christmas movies and hopefully work on getting my blog back on track again
Try to focus on the @jordwatches watch instead of the shadow thay makes it look like I got a tan while wearing gloves. If your wrist is also in need of a watch to cover a bad tan (or just because you like watches) a few posts back on my account is a giveaway for $100 off a JORD watch!
Hope you're having a great day

Buenas tardes amores ❤️.
* FELIZ TARDE AMORES* .
