This is me feeling super awkward in front of a camera. My own camera at that. Yes, I take my own photos and it still takes me a bit to warm up and feel "comfortable".
Acting normal in front of a camera takes time for most of us which is why I use different methods to get people comfortable including conversation. Getting to know who I am photographing works in several ways. .
First, it helps me understand who they are underneath that instant wall we all put up in front of a camera. This is how I show who that person really is through a photograph without having to explain. .
Secondly, conversation gets the focus away from the fact that there is a huge camera in their face and causes people to warm up. .
Moral of the story...It is ok not to love being photographed but for most of us it is necessary to either show off who we are and what we do or to capture the memories we would like to keep for a lifetime. Make sure you hire someone who understands this.
Good morning lovelies!
Based on my caption up there, nobody should say "me too" .
Y'all, I see your pictures, your confidence flows through and you know your angles damn well.
I would basically practice something really peng in front of a mirror then do the opposite in front of a camera.. Oh well, have a nice day you all.
... In my natural environment 🙄
Throwback to a fun day with the sensei 📸 @loitheboi .

I don’t want to be the hot girl, I want to be iconic. 👊🏽
My whole life I didn’t like having my picture taken. My grandma tells the anecdote of how I hit the camera out of her hands once when, at four years old, I saw her trying to sneak a photo of me. In many of our family photos as a little girl, I am covering my face or scowling and closing my eyes. Truthfully I don’t know why I didn’t want my photo taken, I just know I’ve never felt comfortable in front of a camera.
People love to be either for or against selfie culture, and while I know people can take it too far, I have grown to be grateful for it. There is power in desiring to memorialize your physical self, in wanting to remember and share how you were physically expressing yourself during a certain time. Being able to take selfies and not feel like there’s something wrong has helped me to be slightly more comfortable in front of a camera. It still doesn’t come naturally to me, and more often than not I freeze up once I realize there is a camera pointing at me, but I’m no longer on a path towards looking back at photos of my life with an ingredient missing.
I will likely never be a “perfectly candid” photo subject, and I will probably continue to get an awkward expression and stiffness during photos, but that doesn’t infringe on my ability to be present and represented in memories of my own life.
So, here’s a selfie that I took three times before giving up, only to go back and realize they weren’t as bad as I thought, and that it was all in my head. .

Day five of the #yoga12daysofchristmas
And today it is side crow!! Have I mentioned just how much I adore this pose And amazing job on the photo from @billiehadley
Swipe to the video for my how to. But what you need to do is..
1. From crow twist your knees to the side, bringing one below just above the knee and the other above your hip. I can't stress enough that you really do need contact, otherwise you have nothing to lean on.
2. Bend your elbows, bring your body weight forward (and try to look forward)
3. Lift the top foot, and when you are ready lift the bottom one
If you do want to make it harder, bring both legs out long to the side or do it on one arm!! Ps. We are giving this another go in class tomorrow :) Pss. Sorry for questionable video quality, I promise to get better!
Question time! And it is a two parter - 1. Why do you love what you do 2. Why do you love yoga
1. Ignoring the normal 9-5, why do I love teaching Honestly, it has to be that moment when we've been working on something, that might be touching your toes or reaching that back hand in a twist or a headstand, and we get it or I see you get it. It's the face of relief mixed with complete pride. And that, as a teacher makes me so so happy and proud to teach you. Lol I'll stop before I get completely soppy!
2. And why do I love yoga I love the journey and the challenge, and the fact that you can make it anything you want. It's such a unique journey and that for me is wonderful
Just an example of the life of an extra squinty eyed girl 😂😂😂 Poor Jon. We always have to take like 10 pictures because my cheeks are so big when I smile, my eyes close🙄🙄🙄 So thankful he puts up with all of this craziness on the daily 🤷🏻♀️😍
Happy Friday everyone!! It occurred to me the other day that Laura & I have never really introduced ourselves, and since I just received some ridiculously awesome headshots (I'm very camera shy so this is a big deal, Laura prefers to stay out of the shots, difficult one she is:) from my longtime gal pal & uber talented photographer @injoyimagery , what better time to fill you in on a few things about us! Laura's my big sis, I've always looked up to her, and I've been annoying her since I entered this world in March of '86!
She's married 25 years and her awesome son just graduated high school!
I am the incredibly proud wife of my husband Noah, and the light of our world is our little angel daughter Brooke! we're huge dog lovers and owners, both of us are left handed (pretty tricky sometimes lol) Laura's household is Colts territory whereas my household is strictly Packers Nation, Noah & I are even owners:) (GB is the only publicly owned team in the NFL FYI ) But we all cheer for the Leafs so there is common ground! Fishing is pastime 101, Classic Rock especially my Guns N Roses, work hard play hard, and always... Just a little Patience❤️🇨🇦 Thank you Everyone for all your love support, we love what we do and love balancing custom creative pieces for our clients and crazy life itself!
Have a great weekend friends! Stay tuned for some pieces we're finishing up!! 🤗 #jillustrations #injoyimagery #artist #headshot #cameraawkward #lefty #nowyouknow #followfriday #supportlocal #lovewhatyoudo #weekendvibes ❤️💗💞
