Snapshots of Amsterdam #1
Am besotted with this very quaint city! I am absolutely in love with the amount of design I see everywhere, everything is so well thought out and so artsy without being pretentious. It is different from the rest of Europe, somehow very cosmopolitan , cozy and embracing. The air is so clean, the sky is such an endless blue and despite the minus temperatures, the city is vibrant and full of energy. We are in January and it's really off season, but there are enough tourists like me who are soaking in the all pervading aroma of weed and the gentle winter sunshine as we explore the centre of town. I can't imagine what summer is like with swarms of tourists.
A 100 years ago, before the wars, Amsterdam was a big port with exporting beer, art, dairy, botany and flora, cocoa and spice. Shipping, dredging, trading with India and attempts at colonialism prevailed. This was then a centre for business and the elegant canals and houses are testament to their prosperity.
The famous canals and the main 9 old streets are a UNESCO world heritage site. Every corner is a delight. There are tiny pubs playing jazz, cozy bakeries that smell of heaven (and I don't mean the magic kind) and coffee houses that smell of more than just coffee!! There are so many tiny boutiques, each one special and individual, filled with beautiful things, and they hold their own against the chain stores. And of course, there are so many bookshops and cafes filled with people, their dogs and their babies , enjoying long hours talking away.
The people are polite and friendly, tall and beautiful. They cycle everywhere. They go ice skating. They are elegant with a dash of flair, pairing a simple grey coat with a hot orange scarf.
Yes, Amsterdam is a wonderful surprise.

Picture was taken at The Minnewater, or also called the Lake of Love. It is the old port of medieval #Bruges, where we find today swans instead of merchant ships navigating these waters. 🏰❤️🦢
Picture was taken on a bridge in #TheArentsCourtyard. It is one of the most beautiful places to escape Bruges' busy shopping streets. Everywhere you look in The Arents Courtyard you have breathtaking views. You can also discover this place while taking one of the famous boat trips. 🧺❤️🛶
It could be a modern hut or a very small house 🏡 or something which I don't know of. Whatever it's called, it's immensely beautiful 😊 and it radiates so much positive energy and very meaningful as well. It shows that beauty doesn't always have to be big and luxurious, life can be simple and humble which can be very beautiful than every luxury in the world. 😉
Picture was taken at the #QuayOfTheRosary. It is believed to be one of the most beautiful sights in Bruges. Some canals and ancient buildings makes it one of the most photographed places in the city. I can't argue on that. 📸❤️🔐
