This is the ‘Great Pacific Garbage Patch’. Seventy-nine thousand tons of plastic debris, in the form of 1.8 trillion pieces, now occupy an area three times the size of France in the Pacific Ocean between California and Hawaii, a scientific team reported on Thursday. Ugh. 📷 greenintegration
#LimpiemosElSalvador #LimpiemosNuestraCasa
There are only TWO days left till #EarthHour 2018! A day we turn off the light for 1 hour as a way to show our commitment towards a sustainable future. 🌏 Together, we’ll be able to make a difference 💪🏼 Click the in our bio to join the conversation today.
Let’s spread some awareness.
The iconic remains of Easter Island have been a reminder of what can happen to a civilization when the environment it depends upon collapses. Now, another environmental challenge presents itself: global climate change.
Check our latest Facebook post for more details.

With two decades of practical #climateaction up our sleeves, we thought we’d asked the #GreenfleetTeam what their favourite memories at Greenfleet are. Here’s our top 5:
5. The Low Glow project - The 80,000 trees we planted beside Mon Repos, Qld are not only fighting climate change, but also protecting endangered turtle species.
4. Faye’s Forest - Amongst the beautiful #trees in Lysterfield National Park, Vic, Faye’s Forest is a living legacy celebrating her life. We knew that the journey of Faye’s Forest was going to be a special project and we are so grateful to have helped create something truly lasting.
3. Becoming the first ever organisation to be provided with carbon rights on Crown Land in Australia - We joined forces with the Victorian Government to enable the reforestation of public land for carbon storage and improve biodiversity. A significant step forward for #climatechange and Greenfleet! Go team!
2. Battery Creek - This #forest is one of the most visually stunning transformations we’ve seen since the beginning. We planted more than 44,000 native seedlings on this property in Gippsland, Vic, between 1999 and 2009.
1. Bass Valley, the first ever Greenfleet forest - Our first site with 40,000 trees planted across 37 ha of land in South Gippsland, Victoria. This was a revegetation partnership with Landcare and Scouts Australia. These trees have grown at rates greater than expected forming a beautiful, mature forests. . In 20 years, we have achieved a great deal. It is thanks to the countless donations and support from the thousands of individuals and organisations across Australia and New Zealand. Thanks for taking practical climate action every day with Greenfleet. We’re excited to see where the next 20 years will take us, and we have a lot of projects in the pipeline. Today is #WorldWaterDay! Water contamination is a serious issue and only 2.5% of all water on our planet is considered fresh. Recent tests conducted by the US Geological Survey and the EPA detected more than 406 toxic compounds in our waters and rivers. Of the top 10 chemicals, 8 were from synthetic pesticides. How can neem help By using neem as a natural, eco-friendly pesticide that doesn’t contaminate the environment, you can reduce the amount of hazardous chemicals that end up in the water. Learn more about neem as an environmentally friendly solution for the world's problems at www.Neempedia.com!
on #worldwaterday, we’re thankful to work with clients whose technology helps provide clean, accessible water to all.💧 #Aquam
Happy World Water Day!
Today, on #WorldWaterDay, we need to do more than just remind ourselves about the crucial importance water has in our lives; we also need to talk about protecting our #lakes, #rivers and #oceans. Like most Canadians, the #NDP believes that water is not a commodity, but a fundamental right. It cannot be owned, bought or sold. And, we must do all that we can to protect it and make it accessible to all.
Unfortunately, this is not always the case. Too often, I’ve seen pictures on social media of vast islands of plastic debris floating on the ocean. Too often, I’ve heard about First Nations communities here in #Canada without access to clean drinking water. Too often, I’ve seen our water supply threatened by pollution and privatization.
That is why water protection has to be a priority. We‘ve got to invest in initiatives that will transform our future. On World Water Day, we need to talk about the problem and about solutions--some of which were developed here. Take for example #H2Ottawa bottle, developed by Céleste Didigiovanni at the University of Ottawa. Her initiative allows thousands of students to drink bottled water without polluting and without promoting privatization.
The more we develop more innovations like these, the healthier our #environment will be. The Canadian government must follow suit and become a leader for water protection.

It's #WorldWaterDay today! Did you know the average American uses around 100 gallons of water per day That's twice as much as the average European (source: @unwater). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Even though 71% of Earth's surface is covered in water, more than 96% of that is salt water. That means just 0.3% of the world's fresh water is above ground and usable by humans–the rest is trapped in glaciers, soil, and the atmosphere (source: @nationalgroundwater).
Water is one of the world's most precious resources. As temperatures grow hotter and consumption rates increase, the need to conserve is more important than ever. The most commonly talked about ways to reduce water consumption are turning off the faucet while brushing your teeth and washing dishes, taking shorter showers, watering the lawn less, and fixing any leaks in your plumbing. These are easy steps we should all be taking to assist in water conservation. ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You can also be conscious of your waste and the lifespan of your products. According to the Institute for Water Education, the average cotton t-shirt takes a total of 659 gallons to manufacture. Trading in fast fashion for a more minimalist lifestyle is a great way to make a difference. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Another impactful adjustment would be to reduce your use of plastic. 93% of bottled water tested by the State University of New York at Fredonia, Department of Geology & Environmental Sciences were found to contain microplastics. They tested 259 individual bottles from 9 different countries. These numbers are exacerbated by extreme weather events like floods that can wash billions of pieces of plastic into the sea. Microplastics get into the stomachs of fish who think they are food or consume them unknowingly, and can eventually be consumed by humans via seafood (source: @guardian). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
As sustainable practices continue to be developed, it's important to remember that we don't live here alone. We share the planet with millions of species who use the same resources as we do. Our actions not only affect our lives and our futures, but they impact the future of our planet.
#WorldWaterDay serves as a reminder of our responsibility to protect and conserve this most precious resource. #AcquaAlta (high water) in #Venice, as seen in #Metamorphosis, has gotten worse over the years because of the rising sea levels.
How do we overcome the water challenges of the 21st century @un_water says #nature-based solutions are the answer. These include planting new forests, reconnecting rivers to floodplains, and restoring wetlands, which will help to rebalance the #water cycle and improve our health and livelihoods. | #photo by @vcrowripper #film #documentary #cdnfilm #climatechange #italy #climateaction
