Tomorrow is our school’s Peace Day picnic, so 5th grade worked together to make some Peace Day artworks for our front lobby. This was my first time trying out a collaborative “jigsaw mural”. I drew the big pictures, cut them out into pieces, then they painted their piece using watercolors. FUN!
A collaborative painting created with @llaceyloo and @candaland (@arts_and_writes_). What a beautiful process to create and merge different styles and ways of creating into one. We started in one spot and than rotated around the table, adding colors, textures, and brush strokes to the different sections. I noticed judgement coming up around feeling like my section didn't fit with other folks sections. That it was too colorful, too different, too much. There was that shame again. I acknowledged to my buddies about it and they kindly said that they loved what I was creating and wanted me to bring more of that color and style into other parts of the painting. Hmm, we are often our worst critic. What a wonderful moment of learning for me to notice where I was holding myself back and what types of shame driven thoughts were coming up. I am learning, I am growing, I am becoming a better me.. perfectly imperfect. #collaborativepainting #cocreatingart #art #painting #validatingfriends #reflection #reflecting
If you haven't already, do try to get out to @lakecountryartgallery to check out their latest exhibition, entitled "Sign of the Times: the Art of Protest". It's a thought-provoking show.
Carmen, Maureen and I created a piece titled "151 Million Voices", on the general theme of sexual abuse, of voices not being heard and specifically addressing the #metoo movement. We are very proud of this piece, and are touched that viewers are connecting emotionally to it.
The first photo shows the painting as it hangs in the gallery, and the second is a detail shot of part of it. (Medium: Acrylic/mixed media on canvas; Size: 40"x40"; Price: $800)
The exhibition is on until the end of the month. #artshow #collaborativepainting #abstractart #metoo #lakecountryartgallery #signofthetimes #theartofprotest #canadianartists #okanaganartists
