After 15 years, the official definition of the interior design profession was revised and finally gives clarity to why interior designers are typically offended when called “decorators”. I remember my college design professors stressing the importance of licensing and upholding certain qualifications in the ID field to ensure intelligent, thoughtful, experiential and safe spaces are created and yet the public perception of most designers doesn’t go further than “decorator”. I’ll never forget the months studying, taking (and retaking) the 3-part NCIDQ exam until I passed. And the years spent working under talented architects and designers that taught me the best design is much more than aesthetic. The combination of education, experience, appropriate qualifications and licenses, knowledge - and of course talent - pushes interior design to a deeper level than merely “having good taste”.
Caren Martin, CIDQ president-elect and Definition Task Force chair, explained, "Our task force members carefully examined the scope of work of interior design practice, both past and present, in arriving at this updated definition. Given the widespread dissemination and adoption of the 2004 version, we owed it to the public and the profession to make sure CIDQ's definition aligned with current practice." Hello...testing If you saw my IG story yesterday, you saw that I’ve added an iPad Pro to my arsenal of design tools and I’m SO excited to dive into digital illustration. This is my first ever iPad, so the learning process might be hilarious and entertaining. What new tools are you incorporating into your process
Light as a feather ☁️☁️☁️...people can underestimate the impact of visual weight in a space, and it’s something I’m quite sensitive to. Love this interpretation of the classic Mies van der Rohe Weissenhof chair 🖤 (image via @decus_interiors)
Kathy and I did a custom window seat in this bedroom. The front of wood seat in buffalo checks and the seat cushions are all @revolutionperformancefabrics. This is a active kids room. We aren’t afraid to add black and white because we know this fabric performs. Do you like it I love it! #❤️

Does anyone else love the first day of ANYthing as much as I do First day of the month, first day of a new season, first day of the weekend Anyone Happy February, happy Friday, and happy weekend friends!⠀
I love living by the mountains. They are the most majestic thing I have ever seen. I try to go be in them as much as I can - even if it's just sitting and sleeping (major hint: not all Coloradoans enjoy constantly skiing, running, or hiking) - esp. with this little one! 🐶
The mountains are always a huge inspiration for all of my work and my brand. Can't wait to incorporate them more into some products coming out later this year!
