The second vid gives some ideas for challenge. These exercises look simply and easy but that is not true. They need focusing on the _feeling_: the back shall not move at all (maintain the neutral position) and the belly should remain flat. So do as long as you can (remember the quality over quantity!) and suck the belly as hard as you can. 😉

A recent EMG study out of Fresno State compared the muscle activation differences between 6 different core exercises. The purpose was to compare the overall recruitment of the rectus abdominis muscles, external oblique, and rectus femoris (quads) during the traditional abdominal crunch, a plank (traditional and suspended), mountain climber plank (traditional and suspended) and a suspended plank with a knee tuck.⠀

Their results indicated that the suspension knee tuck (which is one of the many exercises within Crunchless Core) produced significantly greater overall muscle activity than the other exercise conditions.⠀
.⠀
It was also concluded that for individuals wanting to develop the abdominal musculature, suspension training and all plank variations (traditional and suspended) would be more effective exercises to use than the traditional abdominal crunch.⠀
.⠀
So that burning sensation you feel from doing endless crunches does not deliver the results you want. In fact, it misses your core altogether. It might hit the muscles on the surface but the negatives far outweigh the positives and this research study proves it!⠀

Combining the unwanted flexion of your spine with the added limited range of the crunch does nothing to strengthen or shape your rectus abdominal muscles, your transverse abdominals, or your obliques. It might feel like it’s working but EMG testing proves its ineffectiveness.⠀

And if it’s true strength and power that you’re after, the crunch is an ineffective exercise that actually provides no function to the body.⠀

I always said to myself, “How do these guys do it?”. The idea of going to the gym is not limited to lifting weights or doing a 100 push ups everyday. It’s about finding a sport that you love. This I learnt over time that unless your heart isn’t into something, no matter how hard anyone forces you, you won’t get results. You have to enjoy the time you spend at the gym or anywhere you train. When I started training, I had a different motivation. But now, I go to the gym for recreation. I LOVE IT! I don’t always lift weights, I sometimes do cross-fit, I love calisthenics and hell yea I tried out Aerial yoga too.

You really don’t have to go to the gym to stay fit. If you like swimming, go swim, if you like football, play football, if you like running, go run. Just be persistent and consistent in whatever you do. That is the key to staying motivated and staying fit while you enjoy your favorite sport because STAYING FIT NOT ONLY MEANS HAVING A HEALTHY BODY BUT A HEALTHY MIND TOO.

🔴PLANK FOR STRONGER ABS🔴 by @fittrainers.

When you plank, do you actually feel it in your abs? If you can hold a plank for a minute or more, chances are, you need to make a few adjustments because there’s a more effective way you can plank.
⠀
⏳The primary issue with traditional planks is the lack of activation from the core over an extended amount of time. The core wasn't meant to “fire” for extended periods of time in isolation. Your core needs to be able to “fire” with maximum force in a short amount of time.
⠀
🏋🏼♀For example, when you squat or deadlift, you take a big ass breathe into your belly, hold the air in and brace your core intensely for the duration of your rep (3-5 seconds) and then breathe out, releasing the air and releasing your brace.
⠀
💡That whole process is 5-10 seconds long. Mimic that same approach when you planks. Rather than seeing how long you can plank for, try seeing how intensely you can plank for in proper position. Here’s an example of quality > quantity.

⚰A good plank is a full body contraction that will last only about 8-10 seconds. Start treating planks like reps, and notice your core strength increase like crazy!
⠀
💥My favorite way to use them is at the end of my workout, but you can also warmup with planks or toss them in mid-workout as part of a superset.

How to do it?
1⃣Stack shoulders above elbows, clasp hands together and create a 45 degree angle between forearms
2⃣Take pelvis and scoop it under your posteriorly (yoga cat pose)
3⃣Tuck your chin slightly and depress your shoulder blades
4⃣Squeeze your butt/legs as hard as you can until your body starts shaking
5⃣Hold intensely for 8-10 sec. Rest 5-10 sec. Repeat 3-10x. Use in dynamic warmup or as finisher

We tend to think #loadedcarries are a good core exercise that not only makes our training smarter, but more effective. After all, who can screw up walking? Well, I remember the amount of time in #physicaltherapy school we took analyzing gait and the realization it is one of THE most complex human movements made me realize that A LOT of people can walk incorrectly!

What actually makes loaded carries a good #coretraining exercise is what also makes it quite advanced! Being able to move through space while resisting other forces trying to pull your body to the side and rotationally WHILE you are mostly on one leg takes quite a bit of #corestrength to begin with! It is why we often see people leaning, changing the length of their stride, and quality of the gait motion when the get under load. We don’t ever have #strengthtraining exercises that actually serve as a regression to carries, or screens to see how well people can handle these strategies. .

That is why I used these marching variations. Going upon a single leg stance allows me to see the quality of the frontal plane stability that is so important in locomotion. At the same time I can teach the body to work better as when I lift up one leg, the other leg must drive down using the feet to guide the #glutes to create stability. Using the @perform_better bands as a press out causes me to brace like a #plank in my core to give me stability as I work on reciprocal patterns that strengthen the body like we do in walking and running.

Using the Lever Bell and #kettlebells with the bands allows me teach the opposite action of the body in a progressive manner. Where we pressing out is easier than pressing up and pressing out with the band gives the movement some additional instability because of the pull of the bands. All of these can be compared to standing dead bugs that build foundational core strength in the first place! We have to think of using exercises as solutions of movements, not just what we do in the #gym !

People want stronger #glutes but rarely train them to their full capacity or even to do the jobs they are designed for in real life!
The glutes are diagonal muscles meaning they don’t our body just up and down, but in all 3 planes of motion (there are 3 planes to every motion we make in real life). They actually move our body forward but also resist unwanted motion. You cannot talk about authentic, functional glute training without discussing the entire body. When you see how large the glutes are in comparison to the other muscles of your body and where they are located, there is no way you can ignore the importance and connectedness of your derrière and training with that ignorance is a complete disservice to your body.

.We always say never to train in isolation and you might see the bent-over row and believe this is the glutes working exactly how we say not to. However, when you appreciate that the body is stabilized through the foot and same side hip in order to have the freedom to row effectively then you will agree that this is anything BUT an isolation exercise .

I personally believe rotational movements are the king of glute training. And using the @perform_better lever bells offers a progression to the pressing experience while pivoting in the #transverseplane In the second video, pay attention how the left lat is connected to the right side glute complex (non-pivoting side). This relationship is important to build core strength that matters outside the gym. True story.
