Here’s a way to swing a #kettlebell which might be slightly different from what you’ve been doing. However, if you’re an #athlete or just someone who’s looking for a bit more “uummmfff” in you kettlebell #training then this might be the variation for you.

Typically, when someone performs a swing they’ll actively contract the #glutes, hamstrings etc to move the bell forward but then relax and passively let the bell descend back down to the hips. The hips then hinge back as the bell returns to repeat the swing. .
Note: If you’re still one of those who #squat the kettlebell swing then ignore this post altogether...this is not for you and neither is anything kettlebell related lmao!!!

Anyways, with this version, instead of passively waiting for the bell to float back down, once the upper arms reach the rib cage the lats forcefully contract to pull the bell into the hips. Obviously, the speed of the bell driving downward into the hips will be faster and more intense with this version versus other techniques. The reason we love this method for our #athletes, especially jumping athletes, is because the arm drive used to bring the bell down is very similar to the countermovement arm swing used to load a powerful vertical jump. So for us the benefits of this type of swing may provide better transfer to #jumping sports like #basketball then other more passive versions of the swing. .
Also, for those of you who may only have access to one or two kettlebells this method is probably more practical for you. By varying the degree at which you forcefully drive the bell downward you can change the intensity or difficulty of the exercise without having to switch to a different size bell.

In terms of reps and sets we typically only do about 3-5 sets and about 6 reps. We never really go over 10 reps. It’s a #power exercise and so we prescribe it as such. If you want to thrust those hips for reps then you’re better off saving that energy for an exercise with your significant other...still use the arm pull to the body though 😂

Diet needs to be your first concern when it comes to fat loss, however, in the gym you should be focusing on big compound movements that are going to incorporate multiple muscle groups into a single movement. This is what will ultimately get your body working the hardest and rev up your metabolic rate (the rate at which you burn off calories). .

To advance this further, you will crank up the intensity of your workouts to go along with the compound movements. Meaning, you’re going to be working much more explosively for longer durations. As promised, here is one of my favorite glute activators to do before a run (more to come in the next few posts)

Why is glute activation sooo important during a run? The glutes are your main power source. During stance phase, the glutes store energy, and that energy is released to produce power.
•
So wake your booty 🍑 up with a few glute activators before a run! Glute activators give you a sense of where your glutes are and how to fire them. This triple extension move (hip extension, knee extension, plantar flexion) teaches your body proper running form while getting that booty firing 🔥

Start off slow and controlled then speed it up (👉🏼swipe for progression). Always focus on stability, keeping pelvis neutral and core engaged.

Isn’t it an amazing feeling when you come back into a good relationship with your body? My yoga practice suffered for most of the year, but as of September I began to put the work, time, and sheer effort into not only teaching, but practicing 3-4 times a week too. I’m feeling strong again physically, and the brain has no other choice but to be lead on the same path. It’s a brilliant feeling to be strong enough after a powerhouse of a class (thanks as always @jenniferlovesyoga 🔥) to stay after and put some serious work into a few challenging poses. L is for love. Love yourself, love each other, love everyone. “Love everyone” sounds pretty cheesy and unrealistic, right? We all know that there ARE monsters out there. But, I don’t know what made them. For people like that, love takes the form of hoping that they find peace and hurt nobody else. And frankly, this concept is probably the most difficult for me, and I’m not entirely there yet— but I’m working to embrace it, because I know that it will give me more peace and happiness. Plus, I know that I’ve done wrong in my life, made mistakes, said things I regret, behaved in ways that made me feel shame. I’m glad that the people who mean the most to me have loved me through it all. ⁣

Did my core workout today, and since it’s a shorter workout I decided to try the preworkout for the new 20 minute program that is coming out. Let’s just say, adding on that 20 minutes really emptied out the tank!! I’m so excited for this program to begin, to continue working on chiseling out the abs, toning everything, and lifting the booty. I’m also looking forward to the internal growth, connecting mind and body and to continue believing in myself because I am my own obstacle.

In honor of @okcballet and the #nutcracker opening this weekend, here’s a nifty post on eyes closed balance & proprioception!

🔬Researchers have found that dancers tend to rely heavily on their vision as a means to maintain their balance when dancing; no surprise there, just about everyone is vision dominant! That being said, the researchers also found that dancers who relied more on their proprioceptive strategies for balance were found to be more stable overall.

So what is proprioception anyway, and how would you train it?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Proprioception is a fancy way of saying your body’s ability to detect its position and movement; proprioceptors in your body also contribute to the control of your postural reflexes to maintain stability while moving.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
There are plenty of ways to train proprioception, but a really easy way is to close your eyes!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So what would happen if you took away a dancers vision, and had them practice with their eyes closed? 👀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🤓Long story short, researchers found that dancing with the eyes closed improved dynamic balance performance by forcing them to adopt proprioceptive strategies!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🧐So you’re not a classically trained ballerina, and you don’t treat dancers in your clinic, how can you apply this knowledge?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
👀Incorporate eyes closed training into your balance programs (and other times when you know proprioception is impaired: ankle sprains, ACLs, etc)! We’re not talking just closing eyes while standing still, throw in some movement: squats, lunges, stepups, hopping, vectors/star balance, etc. The only limit is your imagination (within safe reason of course!)

Please take this as constructive criticism: if you constantly wire your brain to take training serious at the beginning of the year then you’ll continue to fall in the same slump towards the end of the year. Start now, when it’s not convenient and learn how to adapt to the adversities that come with the holidays, cold weather, etc. Find out what works for you ALL YEAR round. These exercise are from an abs workout as part of the 21-day workout challenge I’m doing ! .

• Plank rocks 2 x 60 seconds
• High plank with centre knee drives and oblique knee drives 2 x 60 seconds.
• Side plank hip dips 2 x 30 seconds per side
• Oblique crunches 2 x 30 seconds per side

By the end of even two of the four rounds my abs were praying to the gods to make it stop😅. But I pushed through the rest of the workout and feel great afterwards!! That’s the thing!! 👉🏼 it hurts and you may hate it while you’re doing it but it’s sooo worth it in the end!!

It’s also a bonus when your mom tells you she can see your abs more now 😍🙌🏼
