soft pastel and gouache on paper 🔺 if anyone is looking for a new podcast to listen to I highly recommend akimbo by Seth Godin. Super interesting talks about how culture changes, how ideas spread, what good work is... I was listening last night while working on this.
Day 143/365 - It’s been some wacky days over here since we returned from Hawai’i. There has been a reckoning of sorts that goes a little like this: I’ve been a writer and a witness to life for as long as I can remember. Curious, in some cases careful, in others relentlessly ready to jump into the deep end with both feet. But in all cases, intensely exploring to the end of every possible option in order to feel some sense of control or safety.
At this moment, I’m teetering on the edge of a leap that will shock few of you, but is throwing me for a loop and a half...I’m publishing a book. •
Or to put it another way, I’m coming to terms with the call to publish a book. About my work, my practices, my True North on living and dying and the magic that happens when we engage it all. Which is both thrilling and terrifying. As all the best adventures are.
I was in the throes of fear and doubt last night and as I was falling asleep, I had a visit in which I was shown scenes of a life and a death, and how I interacted deeply with both. The felt sense of this being a reminder that this life I’m living and the work I’m gifted to do is pretty dang AMAZING. So seriously, what could there possibly be to fear
Don’t get me started. 😜 And...it just takes a little (or biggggggg) reframe to shift the view from one where I have to push and effort and toil to make it happen, to one where I open to possibility, engage my awesome community of supporters, consciously do my part, let Spirit do its part, and buckle in for the ride. All is well. •
These beautiful wild violets, haphazardly scattered through the woods on our morning hike reminded me (as did my incredibly calm soul sisters @teraphotomn and @lizcoenen) it’s just as easy as this — bloom where you find yourself and let the love of it all unfold. Yes, please. And thank you...💖

Working on the left side of the painting. It is grittier than the right side. I like how the two sides of the painting play off each other and create balance in the entire painting 😊👍🏿 #urbanvibes #artistlife

Watching the world. Today you turned five. Five years of photographing you and the collection is divided down the center between action and observance. Out of airplane windows, down at dogs, up at Mama, before lakes, rivers, Sedona red rocks. This is the life we try to give you: steering your attention toward the feast of creation. It is said that God has no grandchildren, which I like. In that model I’m something like a biological friend, guiding your trek toward your maker by making it myself with you ever-close in tow: asking, acting, wanting, watching. Feasting on your birthright of meaning, which fills your body with delight.

REAL TALK in the DM’s today 💜 The last post in my feed, I asked what stops you from being creative and... crickets. I asked it in my DM‘s as an anonymous question and answers came pouring in.
We’re held back from our creativity for many reasons and a big one is FEAR. Fear of not being good enough. Fear of being new. Fear of feeling afraid.
I love teaching workshops for so many reasons. I get to cheer students on and be there to remind them that the process is not always pretty 🎨 You will paint a lot of things you don’t like. But if you went to 2 or 3 guitar lessons, would you expect to be a rockstar No, you’re gonna need some practice and it’s gonna get messy.
We see everyone’s highlight reel, but we don’t see their learning process. Just remember that next time you see someone who has achieved a pretty shiny goal. Their process was far from pretty.

The real issue is trusting yourself. #Trusting yourself that you’re going to make the right #choices. Trusting yourself that you can hear that #voice and follow it. Trusting yourself. When people #betray you, #abandon you, don’t acknowledge you, whatever, you will be okay.”
