Are the random afternoon naps your toddler might take (that in turn give you a quiet afternoon) worth the extra hour or two they stay up at night
During the survival aspect of this weekends Mens Expedition, we will be talking about the applications in which paracord can be used such as hanging your phone from a tree on timer whilst taking a selfie. A nice morning with the bear, making a quick lean-to and writing some field notes for this weekends course.
This kid makes me so proud to call him my nephew, Words cannot explain his personality & his love for the game! This whole hockey family started from the man standing to my left, Randy Mills! Also second year coaching this team because my time is over, could definitely get used to it!!! #nativeprovincials2018 #coach #nephew #dad
My dad inspired this Father’s Day card, because well, he was a pretty much a bad-ass, who raced motorcycles in his youth. Today I’ve been working on his memorial cards, which will hopefully be finished tomorrow if I can work out a couple some bugs.
This is a picture of the hypothalamus - another super important brain area involved in the stress response and lifelong mental health. When the hypothalamus receives a signal of alarm from the amygdala (see post from Nov 9 2017) it’s job is to release stress amplifying signals to the brain and body. This is an image from an animal study - the image on the left is the hypothalamus from an individual who received lower amounts of caregiver touch and responses to cries - the image on the right is from an individual who received high amounts of caregiver touch and responsiveness. There is a BIG difference. With lower caregiving there is higher cell density, higher amounts of stress hormone produced and released, a higher stress response and higher anxiety and depression behavior in adulthood. Touch and responsiveness make lifelong epigenetic changes in the hypothalamus. This means caregiving turns on genes to influence lifelong stress responses and mental health. I bought my home eight years ago thinking that I’d promptly move a husband in with me shortly thereafter. That hasn’t happened yet and that’s okay. Funny thing is that I had this exact texting convo with my parents today. I came home from a work trip to find my smoke detector thing beeping. I called my dad, and he came right over. Just like that. I may not have a husband to do those things, but I know my dad will be there for me until I do. I also have a feeling that I’m getting a ladder for Christmas. 😜 #Dad #myhero #independentwoman #notsoindependent
