He gave me the change of cooking simple dishes using a seven day meal plan he created. 12 Hours later we had cooked them all and will cut them into 7 web episodes with a diet plan. The fun part was I did not know what the ingredients were until he gave them to me, one dish at a time. I had to come up with what I would do with those ingredients in a couple of minutes and get cooking. Hi there! If you’re new to our page or just trying to figure out who we are and what we do, let me introduce myself!

That kid wearing ice skates, that’s Ada, my daughter. I’m Audrey (the adult in the second picture 😉) and I founded Balanced when Ada was a toddler. After learning about the ways major food companies and institutions profit while serving unhealthy foods to kids and families — no matter the consequence to our health — I had to take action.

Two years later, here we are! Our goal is to help other moms, families, and everyday people across the country advocate for healthier foods where they live. We make it easy to take a stand and demand better from the people and institutions feeding our families.

But I don’t run Balanced alone - our advocacy and outreach teams are the true heroes in this work!

Because there are so many great organizations focused on individual nutrition education, we spend our days campaigning for systems-level change. And because we believe strongly in evidence-based nutrition, our advocacy efforts champion more plant-rich menus and policies. We fight everyday to get known disease causing foods replaced with fruits, vegetables, plant-healthy proteins, and whole grains.

As a mother, I don’t think it’s unreasonable to want my child to live a life free of diet-related disease - and as an advocate, I believe every child and every family deserves the same.

To be honest, I was skeptical about getting a cake from @daangocakelab since my bad experience with my bday cake and a messy looking 3:15 cake. I gave it another try since I need to give the bday girl her unicorn macarons and I have to say this cake was yummy! The staff was very informative this time to let us know that we have to wait 3 hours before we can eat the cake! But most important this time is to be able to see the happy face of the bday girl enjoying her fav 🦄!

If you truly enjoy them, great they can be portioned tools to help you manage your macros.

But if they are causing you to eat around the food you really want they aren’t a good thing. 
Here’s an example: You really want a chocolate chip cookie, but you’re being ‘good’ so you eat a 💯 calorie pack of cookie thins... that still doesn’t really take care of the craving so you have another (and maybe even another) then you move on to some fruit or nuts or popcorn. Which those aren’t bad choices of course- but by the time you ate around that craving you ended up eating 500 calories. The cookie was just 200. 
More of the story- Sometimes it’s better to just eat the 🍪 cookie without guilt. Allow yourself to enjoy it and move on. 🥰🥰

Regular readers of my blog would know that I started sharing my low carb and Keto friendly recipes in 2010. Over the years, I’ve made a few adjustments to my diet and lifestyle. I needed to eliminate the intake of processed foods so I moved to a low carb and Paleo diet to eat whole foods. One of the easiest recipes I shared is this Slow-Cooked Salsa Verde Chicken.
