“The way your hand felt as I guided you” | 40x1.5x40in. | $1,500.00, shipping varies. | oil on stretched canvas •
I used a palette knife to create the depth and texture for the trees. Once the oil was about 75% dry I came in with a soft brush with just a hint of white oil to soften it up.
Mudlarking finds - some sharp iron nails blunted by rust, and rounded bones broken to a point. The metal and the animal materials washed and worn by the river until they look alike. Here they are set on an abstract background of acrylic painted on wood. .
This is the third and final piece of a series using objects cast on to the shore of the river. By setting them on beautiful backgrounds their preciousness and unique value is restored in a new and fresh way. .
I like that the river both sharpens and softens our edges just as life does, and how what we see around the thing changes how we see the thing. .

I tried to show the detail of the ‘waves’ as well as the subtle shimmer. It is so hard to show details in resin with the reflection. Anyway, hope ya like it 😉
It’s available! Dm for pricing and more information ❤️
“Civilization is what makes you sick.” - Paul Gauguin
This is my first series submission to Lens Culture’s Emerging Talent Award.
Living in the Modern World: Observations Made Wandering the Streets of San Francisco
This series contains a variety of stylistic and rhetorical devices - ranging from unflinching realism to the abstract, from the macro to the micro, humor, irony, etc. Within each image, I find a tenuous balance between society's most grim and brutal truths and a dark sense of humor/playfulness/resilience that I think we all find necessary in order to cope. It often arises out of the seemingly absurd meeting of two different worlds (rich and poor, natural and unnatural, etc.). I also aimed to celebrate humanity's ability to survive within these conditions by creating stories, connections, and experiences among (and often in spite of) our surroundings.
I hope that this series provides a truthful and complete portrait of modern civilization. I've tried to capture its most abhorrent qualities - such as homelessness, congestion, crime, wage slavery, addiction and consumerism - as well as its redeeming elements - namely humanity, vulnerability, adaptability, self-expression, harmony with nature, the will to survive, and the discovery of humor, and even sometimes serenity, within the unrelenting chaos.
Thank you very much for viewing and reading!

A little #tbt to the first time one of my best friends @callie_7801 photographed me painting in my studio. Even though I had been painting since I was 8, I was on the start of something completely new and something completely my own.
