I completed my rater training! It was two weeks online and one week in class. It was way more intense than I expected! It required two computer simulations, two practice ratings, and a multiple choice exam. I learned a lot and am ready to start Home Energy Ratings. #ResilientBuilding #HERS #Mortgage #Green #energyefficiency #theber #nehers

Earlier this month, I was fortunate enough to be at the Behavior Energy and Climate Change (BECC) conference. It was an incredible group of people sharing insights from research and practice about how to improve the performance and adoption of energy saving programs and how the conversation around climate change can be improved. One highlight was this keynote delivered by George Marshall. I'll be sharing more thoughts on the conference soon!

Meet Gary — a homeowner in Calgary who received an EnerGuide Home Energy Evaluation through our new program, Home Energy Plan. Here’s a behind the scenes look at the process.
Step 1: Gary chose an Energy Advisor and scheduled his Home Energy Evaluation.
Step 2: Gary’s Energy Advisor assessed his home from top to bottom. They looked at everything from the insulation in the attic, to the windows in the basement. They also conducted a blower door test to find hidden leaks.
Step 3: Gary will receive a custom report on an online portal for his home. This will help him determine which energy-efficient upgrades would be best for him.
Step 4: Gary can now complete recommended renovations with a registered contractor or on his own. Learn more about our Home Energy Plan, link in bio. #EfficiencyAlberta
Yesterday, our office renovation was recognized with a 2018 Bright Business Innovation Award! The awards are hosted by Efficiency NS to recognize Nova Scotia’s best-in-class energy efficient organizations, individuals and communities.
Our renovation increased office space by 50% while reducing energy consumption by 65%. As of 2017, it is considered to be the most energy-efficient commercial office retrofit in Canada!
Creating a showcase of what is possible in an ecological renovation was at the heart of this project. We hope you'll stop by our office for a tour, or try the virtual tour on our website https://ecologyaction.ca/ourbuilding (link in bio!)

Most people are told to put computers to sleep when they are not in use to save energy. And while this does save significant amounts of energy, they are still drawing power while asleep. Turning computers off completely can also help extend the life of the components.
Desktop computers use almost 75 watts when they are left idle and 21 watts when put to sleep. Laptops use about 15.77 watts when they are asleep. For households with three or four computers, that number begins to add up.
Leaving three computers (225 watts) on in idle mode for 24 hours would cost $233.28 per year. Simply putting three computers to sleep would only cost $65 per year. This means that you can save $168.28 per year by turning off your three computers, instead of leaving them idle. #energyefficiency #savewithKUA #computers #laptop
