Today I was working on a different hand building method to make bowls with soft slabs. I spent a good chunk of the morning looking at options, and people who do this well, such as @clayfolder as well as combing through YouTube (which had a very useful video entitled “slab bowls for empty bowls”!) It was successful! I got four hand built bowls made in today’s #emptybowls session, compared to two from yesterday’s, including the time I used to make templates.
As I promised the organizer, @mudnstix here is my process, for future improvements and use.
Step 1: roll out fresh clay to about 1/4” or 6mm
Step 2: Smooth out the clay, and do any backside textures. I had placed the template and rolled the edges with a pony roller so I could place textures in particular locations on the bowl, remove the template, texture the clay, and be able to put the template mostly back in the same spot.
Step 3: Place tar paper template, and roll gently until it sticks. Cut out, and flip over (I placed a cloth and then another board, then flipped the whole stack)
Step 4: Texture the inside of the bowl
Step 5: Score the cut outs with a serrated rib held at an angle, or miter and score with whatever you have
Step 6: Smooth the rim edges by placing plastic and running your finger or a sponge over the plastic
Step 7: Dampen the scoring with water, lift sides by the tar paper and press together each seam
Step 8: Apply small coil to the inside of the seams, smooth or leave distinct. I tried both, and since I didn’t miter much I may be able to get away without a coil in the future, but I was too chicken to try it for this 😁
Step 9: Put buttons at top and bottom of the seam, if you want.
Step 10: Check that outside seams are closed, then allow to stiffen with the tar paper in place.
Step 11: Remove the tar paper, and smooth outside seams
Step 12: cross fingers, dry and fire as per normal.
I haven’t done this last step yet, and since it is for Empty Bowls, I may never see these bowls again as @mudnstix will be taking them the rest of the way (Thank you!)

After A Long Hard Day On The Job 🎂

I will be making a big change to my routine within the next week as I am going to be doing a 30-day trial of the CARNIVORE DIET
For those that are unfamiliar, this diet consists of eating ONLY:
- Eggs - Low-Lactose Dairy •
I like to experiment with different diets as I’ve previously done Paleo & Intermittent Fasting. I thought I’d take a chance and see what this diet has to offer. I will be posting updates as I go through this 30-day adventure

Out of the curiosity of natural polymer, I've been playing with pectine from orange peels.🍊🍊
The water evaporated unexpectedly and the result turned out to be a film like material rather than jelly.
It's water soluble and, surprisingly, didn't melt after 3 minutes in air fryer.
Edible too(I can't help that I like tasting everything I made)
I'll continue to test and hopefully It can be something useful.
#BTS #poll #experiment #pleasebepartofthispollitllhelpmesomuch
So I tried doing a poll on "my story" but it didn't go as planned, so I'm trying this again but it's as a post (everyone can join this poll). Here is what you need to do, answer these three simple questions:
1). Do you listen to BTS
2). If you do, how do you feel when listening to their music
3). If you don't, then would you listen to their music based on what people say about them
I solved the mystery of why heating up the air in the environmental control tent caused the centrifuge to speed up. I was using a heat gun on the same circuit as the centrifuge. I calibrated the centrifuge while I was running the heat gun. So when I turned off the heat gun, the centrifuge sped up. I found this out because I needed to help the normal heater along because the temp in the lab dropped more than normal.
I turned on the heat gun and the speed dropped by 1-3 rpms. Then I turned it off and it sped up again. The temperature had nothing to do with it.
